What say you? Make it clear and unambiguous. One possible text:

"The right of the people to defend themselves, their property and their Nation being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed."

MSgt George Cater The scumbag criminals and the occasional lunatic gives gun owners a bag reputation when they go out and commit senseless acts of violence. However overall guns are safe until people start to use them in ways they were not intended to. The lawmakers should concentrate on penalizing the scumbag criminals. Instead of making all these ridiculous laws attacking law abiding citizens.

Peace!

Don't change a thing. It's right the way it is. Change anything and it'll open the gates for the liberals to try and change everything.

It has worked successfully for nearly 200 years now as it is written....if Americans have gotten dumber in these 200 years, maybe it's not the 2nd Amendment that needs changing ??

The problem isn't the wording of the 2nd amendment. It's these progressive left wing nut burgers who claim it doesn't mean what it states with some ridiculous notion that it's a "living document" that must evolve to their wishes. I've heard some of the silliest arguments from these crackpots... claims it was limited to muskets and that it doesn't serve any useful purpose in modern times.

No leave them guessing, the debate alone keeps the right at bay. If we try to define it, it will be restricted by the definition.

And, let's not forget...the Bill of Rights is meant to INFORM the government that at the very LEAST, those rights enumerated are beyond government interference. The government's SOLE purpose is to protect and guarantee those rights, which PRE-DATE government. (Even cavemen picked up a weapon (stick or rock) to protect their family and territory.) When SCOTUS began violating their Article III limitations, and began "interpreting" (and were allowed to) what the Constitution said and meant...THAT's when things starting going downhill. As Justice Scalia so rightly said, "The Constitution says what it says, and doesn't say what it doesn't say." The Constitution is a LIMITING document on the power of government.

Sgt Tee Organ - Well, we HAVE the Constitution because the People and the States understood there were just some things that they could do better acting in concert with each other. The Constitution was written as a LIMITING document on a Federal (NOT National) government to do those things each state couldn't do alone and ONLY those things (such AS "provide for the common defense", regulate interstate and foreign commerce, etc.) The states were in fact, 13 separate "nations", and were recognized as such in the formal surrender/Peace Treaty of the British after the Revolutionary War. Because there was STILL mistrust of a powerful central government, the Bill of Rights was proposed and adopted. Voting is important in democracies. We have a "Republic" and vote for people to represent us. The Framers were geniuses in creating the federal government under the Constitution. The 17th Amendment needs to be repealed. The HOUSE is populated with representatives chosen by the PEOPLE. The SENATE is SUPPOSED to be populated by representatives chosen by the STATE LEGISLATURES. (So both the People AND The States were equally represented, and the concerns of BOTH could be addressed.)
The President is elected using the Electoral College, thereby ensuring that a more equitable method ensured at least partial equality in the smaller, and less populated states. (Thereby ensuring the states with the largest populations didn't elect the President forever!) The problem is...much of what the "federal" government now does, is way and beyond their Constitutional authority. Even Article III, limiting the powers of the federal court system, has been ignored since about 1803. (SCOTUS does NOT have the Constitutional authority to "interpret" the Constitution.) We need term limits on Congress as we have with the Executive, as the representatives care more about 'political' agendas rather than actually representing the people they were elected to. (Politicians should make their money BEFORE they get in office...not WHILE they are in office.) Many citizens are lazy, ignorant, or just aren't willing to put the effort in to determine who would best represent them. Don't see it getting any better soon....

Education is the only recourse. Could you imagine forcing people to vote. Now that would be a twist.

Sgt Tee Organ - Yep...but schools currently indoctrinate "WHAT" to think...not "HOW". until we "UN"-liberalize schools, the education system in general will continue to dumb down our students. I don't advocate forcing people to vote....but if someone DOESN'T vote??? I'm then not inclined to pay attention to their griping and snivling.
