Local, State, and Federal Law enforcement agencies polygraph their candidates. I think the Army should use polygraph to identify rapists, murderers, thieves, terrorists, spies, drug dealers/users and traitors attempting to infiltrate our ranks. I am confidant the polygraph would diminish many of the issues we are facing and would increase honor and pride in serving.

No. This is time intensive and very expensive. Simple background checks usually address the concerns you mention; however, some may still slip through the cracks.

Sir, if a polygraph can prevent one incident like Nidal Hassan's terrorist attack on fort hood, or stop rapes before they happen wouldn't it be worth the costs? I think the time and resources we spend investigating these crimes, and providing treatment for victims are more expensive than the costs of preventing them would be.

It's not about being "worth the cost". It's about "can we afford it". It would be "worth the cost" to pay for every single American's college education, private tutoring, good health insurance, their first car, their first house, and everything in between. But we can't afford it.
There are a lot of great ideas that are simply not practical. And this is one of them.
It's very difficult to get enough time, money, and trained polygraphers to the point where it would not only be not affordable but also would clog the pipeline waiting and waiting for people to get polygraphed.

Jonathan, I understand where you're coming from; however, there is no fail-safe method. What if we polygraphed everyone and they were radicalized AFTER they entered the military?
