SFC (Join to see) , this would be a great idea! It would be a better way to vet potential NCOs rather than the current 'paper board'. Granted, the good 'ole boy system could make this null, but it would be a step in the right direction!

Yes and why not. I think it adds to the credibility and unity.

Reserve units can be pretty spread out. A unit in Nevada may have a battalion headquarters in Illinois. For that reason alone, it doesn't make sense to have boards similar to the Active component. Unless, of course, you think company grade officers should be the approving authority for SGT and SSG promotions.

Yes I remember all the cool things I did while in the Active Component too. It is amazing what having an Active Duty budget can do for units.

Considering after I ETSed and joined the Reserve Component, I waited 16 months to get an issue of TA-50 - I somehow doubt the hundreds (thousands?) of Reserve Centers and Armories will suddenly find funding to conduct boards via VTC.

SFC (Join to see) - Depends on coordination, I'm sure the signal units would die to actually set up their VTC HCLOS cases. It is such a rare occurrence that we ever get to operationally use that piece of equipment.

Depends on funding and time, something that both Guard and Reserve have neither of.
We also have to take into consideration that these are "Citizen Soldiers" they have career paths outside of the military. Adding more and more requirements on top of the 1 weekend a month and 2 weeks a year are bad for attrition. We will lose the very skilled individuals that we want to show for the board and be promoted because they will choose keeping their full time job over theit part-time Army one.

Yes. There is a skill set and perpetration work that goes into the promotion board. There is a reason that we still do them on Active duty. Just my $0.02

Logistically speaking I have to say no, because where the board could be located to where the soldier lives. Would there be funding available to pay for the soldier to travel to the location the board is. Just so they could attend it, then have to pay the travel back to their home. In some cases it could be 3 days of pay and travel. That can quickly added up to 1000 plus. And if they are turned down, the Army just paid 1,000 plus just to turn down a soldier. Besides what the team on the board got paid to be there. If they needed to travel to show up, it could add up to 5,000 to 10,000 dollars spent for all soldiers to be there. Since more just than one soldier goes to the board, it could actually cost up to 20,000 plus for all soldiers to be their. And that is a low estimate. So logistically, are you kidding me!. And if it mirrored Active Duty boards, you could get to 80,000 plus a year. And that just for one Reserve Battalion Add up the rest of the Reserve Battalions and it would be millions a year needed. So again logistically it would be too costly.

Every State is different, apparently. Indiana Army National Guard runs boards, but I don't think Ohio Army National Guard does.

I voted yes but, I have no idea how the current system works, so, I don't know if it's better or not. Maybe I shouldn't vote on issues I'm not informed on haha

I think so because in the RC and NG, soldiers are just handed the rank if their paperwork looks good. If they are made to go to a board then the committee see who they are or aren't promoting in person.
