I just like the fact that Airforce, Navy and Marines only have the name rank and their respective branch. They all look the same and they all don't seem to have the judgements we have in the army. I mean we in the army have the unit patches, skill badges and deployment patch. I believe that the army should be the same as the other services.

That's almost like the Corps, we do have devices that we wear like jump wings, scuba bubble, crew chief, air traffic controller, EOD tech, pilot wings, etc.  One thing that we don't wear is what course you have attended or receive medals and ribbons for completing some PME.

SFC Pate,

Is this really about uniformity? Soldiers should have the right to show what schools, specialties they have accomplished. There is a reason this has gone through every uniform since they were created. Nothing wrong with it at all.

Sir, I didn't mean that there was anything wrong with it, just is it needed?

I  have to be honest.  With all the issues the military is facing today, I find it humorous that one of the most widely discussed topics is the wear or non wearing of a patch.  I also don't understand the want to be like other service branches.  I joined the Army.  If I wanted to be like the other branches I would have joined that specific branch.  We are all very similar in a lot of ways but the uniqueness of each branch is what makes them stand out.

I like the Army way, brings pride in unit, shows where you been what you've done to a point.

USN SeaBees wear a distinctive patch on their BDUs.  So do their riverine and EOD troops.  USAF folks often will wear unit and squadron patches on their BDUs as well (they wear them on their chest pockets not on their shoulders).

And I'm in the ARMY.  I like the traditions we adhere to.

I agree. I like the unit patches because you can quickly identify if the person is in a specific unit (convenient when you're looking for someone from a specific unit). All of the badges, however, should be saved for when you're in your dress uniform. That's the time for showing off and looking sharp.

I will say the MultiCam Combat pants are the most brilliant thing the Army has ever come up with. No more having to hook my kneepads, AMAZING!

I like Multicam, it is far more functional than ACUs where you can only blend in if you're lying on a couch. MARPAT would be nice but I can't imagine all the branches wearing something designated as "marine pattern."

I would love to bring back BDUs or to just switch to Multicams. And personally, I believe the Marines have the SHARPEST dress uniform! I understand the reasoning behind our new ASUs but, Blue, Black, Yellow and White is a hot mess. I also feel like we should have kept the patches on the ASUs. While we're at it, let's lose the Combat and service stripes. Just my opinion/thoughts.

I'll also throw it out there that the Marines have the sharpest duty uniforms as well. However I'm a big fan of the Multi-Cam personally. I do think there's too much "bling" allowed on our duty uniforms. I'd like to see it saved for ASU wear.

ASU's colors an trim go back to the Civil war.  I like the way it's put together.  And the Army and Marine dress blue jackets were essentially identical until the 1930's when the Army dropped the choker collar.  Honestly I'd love to see us go back to the WW2 style khaki uniforms.  those were sharp.

LTC Labrador,

I second the motion for the khakis.  I don't feel the ACUs are appropriate in most garrison settings.  Even the BDUs were first a field uniform.  While we can wear the class B ASU at work, the white shirt is impractical in a patient care setting.

Most folks wear scrubs anyway at the bedside.  THAT is a much more appropriate patient care uniform.
