There has been a lot of coverage about the release of (1) Marine veteran Amir Hekmati ; (2) Christian pastor Saeed Abedini; (3) journalist Jason Rezaian; (4) Nosratollah Khosrawi; and (5) Matthew Trevithick from Iranian prisons.
There has been less coverage about the two american citizens still imprisoned in Iran: Siamak Namazi and former FBI agent Robert Levinson who was taken hostage on March 9, 2007, when visiting Iran's Kish Island while supposedly researching a cigarette smuggling case.
His family is rightfully concerned about his health and safety after being held for nearly 9 years.
What are you thought on this situation?

I think that the family of Bob Levinson have every right to be angry that their husband and father was not released as part of the prisoner exchange with Iran. I think they should be hopeful and thankful that at least some headway has been made in releasing Iranian prisoners. Hopefully efforts are underway to gain the release of all other citizens of the US and our allies currently held in Iran.

SGM David W. Carr LOM, DMSM MP SGT - Apparently he was arrested while visiting Iran's Kish Island while supposedly researching a cigarette smuggling case. I don't know if this is a cover story or not.

LTC Stephen F., Whether he is dead or not doesnt matter. He's an American and needs to come home one way or another. The government can tell us anything they think is going to appease the family and us, but we know they are lying, just like they did when they told us all of the Americans missing in Vietnam were accounted for, and that AO didn't cause any cancer in Vietnam vets. I dont know why they think we believe their garbage. They're dumb as a stump, if they think were not intelligent enough to see through them.

Well said my friend SGT (Join to see). I concur wholeheartedly. This situation reminds me to too much of the 1979 hostage situation in Tehran where our diplomats were held for so long to the joy of many in the muslim-dominated areas of the middle east, north Africa and southwest Asia.

LTC Stephen F., Thank you Sir. I'm not going to say he's proable dead. There was a wealthy man captured in Mexico by a drug lord. They wanted millions of dollars for the husband to be released. The wife didn't believe her husbad was kidnapped. They sent her a finger. Years went by, but the wife never waivered. In fact she talked them down to a million dollars. She dropped a bag where they told her to, but no husband. They set the husband free, but it was in the mountains. Another six months went by and one day he walked into his yard and his house. The wife prayed a lot and would not accept that her husband was dead. True story BTW.
So, you just cant give up, no matter how long it's been.

1. Why would he care about cigarette smuggling and go to Iran for it.
2. Former FBI agent in iran? Seriously though.

Why do people have this undying need to travel to these places, regardless of the reason.

You are referring to the marine correct? I believe we are all friends and brothers in arms, until you feel like taking a personal trip to these countries. Then you have lost respect and friendship.
