We hear about how all these Vets are triple dipping, but I don't think people are educated on how hard it actually is to do this, and how very small of a percentage of people can qualify to do this.

You have to meet all of these requirements: Serve over 20 years, receive a 50% or more VA Rating, be deemed unemployable or 100% disabled by the VA, AND qualify for SSI benefits.

I get all three, I hurt my back while on active duty. It wouldn't have been permanently disabling if the VA hadn't ignored me for two years and then almost kill me on the table. Then an over zealous surgeon destroyed my back permanently. Before I realized I was crippled for life I felt guilty for "triple dipping" but now it's our only real source of income. My husband can't work a full time job because he has to take care of me. There are so many everyday tasks I can't do without excruciating pain that he has to do almost everything. So, I choose not to be miserable and maintain an attitude of acceptance and gratitude that we have what we have even though I wish it were different.

I guess that answers the question. We have brothers and sisters that more than earned it and, in reality, should be given more than what they already get considering what they gave up.

That is not scamming the system.
Now if you are taking the extent of your disability to meet all three conditions it is another matter.

Triple Dipping, to me, implies accessing the same pool of funds three times. If you are eligible to to receive funds from three different pools, go for it.

I'm not sure what this whole triple dipping is. But I do live in pain. gain a ton of weight because every time I would go and do cardio I would reinjure something or aggravate an injury. I have a high tolerance, but sometimes it gets so bad I pass out and/or see stars. Had to stop taking narcotics because thanks to my genetics have built a resistance/tolerance to pain killers. So I basically looked like a junkie poping 4 sometimes more hydrocodones. live on 600mg motrin, fish oil, turmeric, flaxseed, and pineapple juice(all for inflammation). ever few months I have to go through a 1 week cleans to flush my body of the motrin and wellbutrin. I do this in order to keeps my kidneys and liver from getting fucked up too bad. because nothing says fun like the looming threat of a seizer, kidney or liver failure. fun times

Okay, if you worked you are eligible for SSI. Only because of a very old law that allowed the government to effectively deny veterans disability . Something that every other person in the US of AA is eligible for. Does that seem right to you? For me personally I have no issue with it. The persaon who is receiving it is banged up tot he point where they can't work, and paid into SSI.

Go check out the DOJ websites and they post all the trial outcomes. Great reading. Talk about scammers. One was getting VA benefits for blindness, was very mobile, successfully passed three vision tests and received three DLs in three different states. Now that's a scammer. This triple dipping thing I am torn on. We have an entitlement culture. Do Vets rise above it?

Many get government civilian jobs. Your Military pension is offset by your VA Disability and your civilian pension is offset offsets your military pension, and on and on

When the Military sends one in harms way or do whatever and you are injured or hurt the military has an obligation to fix it/compensate for life...... God bless all of us that deal with pain or disabilities from our service.
