Should we remove combat patches to be sensitive to those who don't have them?

"(Unit Name withheld) BCT ordered to remove combat patches during training at Fort NoMatter so the ones without them don't get hurt feelings.
Reason? "The unit just returned from Afghanistan and almost everyone has a patch but the large influx of new soldiers are E1 and E2s that have never deployed and they are saying they are left out because they don't have a patch."

I had a BDE CO that did this in 1/503 for all field problems inluding all tabs. His reasoning was that it was all about your laft shoulder not your right. It is one of the many reasons why after making 6 in 5 yrs im getting out.

Must be that cav unit that just left for training. My neighbor's wife was telling me her husband was upset because they was told to take it off to not upset privates that don't have a combat patch.

This is about as much bull shit as the National Guard I volunteered to go to Iraq with after leaving the active duty Marine Coros to go to college. There was an undisclosed E-7 and above ceremony where a bunch of slubs relieved bronze stars. Not one of them did anything to deserve them. Some of them never even left the wire. Fing joke.

What kind of poor little ole me infantry is this? These soldiers have been to combat, they should be allowed, nah required to display these badges during training. That way the privates can see them and respect the position of these soldiers as combat veterans. In the armed forces discipline is paramount. You don't get badges for sitting on your hands. Are you going make everyone take off their expert markmanship badge because someone else only got sharpshooter?

These combat patches and certain awards like a combat action ribbons are badges of honor that are earned. Those that wear them should not be stripped of them for any reason what so ever, especially because some boot feels left out. When I was a young pup I looked up to the guys who earned these awards, gave you something to aspire towards. They want them, let them go out and earn them....if they feel left out, don't worry you'll get your choice soon enough. There enough bad guys to go around.

Lets remove all ribbons. WTH, let's go real touchy-feely and remove all the rank.

I'm not a combat vet but have the utmost respect for those who saw fire. You earned that patch and you should goddamn well be free from restrictions to wear it! This is like getting "participation trophies" so no one feels like a loser in youth soccer.

Let them get deployed to earn their own patch. I bet once they have it they'll wish they never went.

Actually, I always feel left out when I see stripes on the chests of my superiors. I think it'd be really nice if they weren't allowed to wear those. Also, my cover messes up my hair. I don't think we should have to wear them if we don't want to! And while we're on the topic, "Casual Fridays" is something I was always hoping to have in my job atmosphere...
No. Hell no. They should feel left out. They didn't deploy. It sounds to me like the leadership in that situation hasn't taught them enough about Army history.

Sensitivity training. I remember when this all started in the late 90's. I believe this over sensitivity is making our military weak. My old crusty 1sg warned be about this when I was a buck, I'll never forget what he said and his statements are proving to be correct.

Next thing you know, we'll only be allowed to wear the thanks for playing medals everyone gets for graduating basic. What's next, we stop wearing our rank too so that way the fuzzies don't feel left out for not having any rank yet?

I've read many articles written on this issue and the one thing that I find interesting is that there seems to be a "garrison uniform" and a "field training uniform". Someone tell me when this was added to the regulation and to which one can it be found? Uniform is a uniform whether work in Harrison or training environment which is why badges were made to be sewn on and subdued so that they aren't a problem while training.

This part of service and traditions. I did not earn my combat patch until my 29th year of service. I volunteered on at least 3 previous times and thought I would never earn the right to wear a CP before I retired. Then my unit deployed for OIF II. My 27 years of service meant no less to me than my last 5. I held every soldier w/ CP with a certain level of respect during those 27 years. From the start they were an example to me of military culture and Army tradition. It is important that this "silent" lesson to the troops...

They went and fought for there country they deserve to wear them. Tell the new people once they have fought for are country then they may have theirs. Tell them to proudly wear their patches.

I sincerely hope this is not being considered. The "political correctness" and "safe spaces" crap has gone too far and needs to stop, now. Why strive to do anything "above and beyond" if someone, somewhere is going to get their feelings hurt over your accomplishments and you're told you con't wear your earned ribbons?!
