Should we remove combat patches to be sensitive to those who don't have them?

"(Unit Name withheld) BCT ordered to remove combat patches during training at Fort NoMatter so the ones without them don't get hurt feelings.
Reason? "The unit just returned from Afghanistan and almost everyone has a patch but the large influx of new soldiers are E1 and E2s that have never deployed and they are saying they are left out because they don't have a patch."

If thats the case then why shouldn't everyone remove rank and when in dress blues you might as well remove all your awards and everything else... or create a Combat Patch for soldiers out of Basic Training, maybe an eye with a tear coming out...

Yeah...no, if you're offended by someone's Combat patch, you're in the wrong business kiddo, get over yourself and earn one so you can offend the next group of wussies they bring in!

So far, 47% said yes? Were they spoon fed in the military? I can't even imagine what kind of "soldiers" these are or were. That freakin' leveling of classes is morning stool in the schools and in the military it's for the ferries.

Sure enough... I looked wrong the first time and now 2% said yes and that's still 2% too many for me.

maybe they need to go back to cub scouts, where they all share. no one should ever be ashamed of what they earn and fought for, most never even try, so earn it or get the F out .

Combat patches are like medals and ribbons - bullshit merit badges that mean nothing unless a V is attached or it's top-two.

You do realize LT is O-3, not O-1, right? It's been a while since I was a butter bar. Enjoy some more of your internet tough guy routine.

Bottom line is that the brass needs to quit babying the servicemembers that don't have combat patches. Should they be picked on because they don't have one, NO! Any NCO that allows it is doing a disservice to NCO CORP & needs to leave the service. When I was in & I saw an NCO or an Officer with a combat patch, I knew if & when sh*t hit the fan who I was following. The military was never designed to be a social experiment as currently used by the Obama administration.

Gentlemen... although your points are acknowledged by me, and most NCOs will agree with me... SPC, know your lane, when you're talking to an officer, no matter the rank. They sure earned their rank, sweating their balls off, burning the midnight oil, studying for their major in college, and then, Westpointing, or OCS'ing. Yes, I agree to the fact, that higher ups need to stop babysitting the new troops, because they do not have a combat patch on their shoulder. In 1995, as a PV2, I saw those who had combat patches, as people of respect, because they went to war, and earned the right to wear them. Since then, I looked forward to going to war, even more. 8 years later, I went to Iraq, guess what? I got out, in 2010, with 4 different combat patches to choose from! I was never picked on, because I had no combat patch, by my NCOs... which in turn, they earned my respect and admiration. Lots of SPCs got my respect as well... so, as SGT Holland said, any NCO that allows their new troops to be picked on, because they got no combat patch... needs to give up the patch, and them stripes, and go back to being a PVT, with nothing, so they learn where they came from, again. Not for one day... 90 DAYS!!!

I say no because that shows the true soldiers and the wannabe soldiers. The soldiers that risks their lives for you and me.

What's next taken off the ribbons that you earned and maybe even their rank

It is a sad thing to see that the lower enlisted feel bad that they don't have those combat patches. Maybe if they put on their big boy boxers they can live through an engagement. I love the phrase " Suck it up Buttercup."

I'm fairly certain that you are awarded that patch by way of your dd-214. I don't believe ANY commander can make you remove it legally. Sounds like a trip to JAG is in order.
