Should we remove combat patches to be sensitive to those who don't have them?

"(Unit Name withheld) BCT ordered to remove combat patches during training at Fort NoMatter so the ones without them don't get hurt feelings.
Reason? "The unit just returned from Afghanistan and almost everyone has a patch but the large influx of new soldiers are E1 and E2s that have never deployed and they are saying they are left out because they don't have a patch."

Hmm, well if we are worried about peoples feelings then i guess we should get rid of all awards and decorations because these E1s & E2s wouldn't have any and said feelings may be hurt. While we are at it lets go ahead and get rid of rank and pay grade all together so those feelings are not hurt. SMH

There had not been recent combat when I was active duty. That being said, I felt better knowing there were guys that had seen combat in my unit/s to look up to should we be deployed. What are these new people thinking? Always look up to those that came before you. Makes friends with them. They're the ones that will keep you alive should you all ever be deployed to a combat zone.

Tell them to suck it up and be ready to deploy to eventually earn a combat patch! Many of us felt left out on awards and promotions through out our careers!

A combat patch is not a participation robin it is earned with by putting your ass on the line and I will be damned if I would support taking it off because some new recruits want to cry because they don't have one. They can stick around until the next deployment and earn one for them selves!

Poor Snowflake Enlisted. This is the Army or is it? Make them earn their badges just like every other person who has served has done.

If you want a patch. Sign up to go with a different unit. They are always looking for volunteers. That way others wont be voluntold.

I never had the opportunity to earn a combat patch even though I absolutely wanted to go earn one. Those that did have them, I felt they deserved to wear them with pride. They also indicate that that person has been in a combat zone and may be an excellent person to learn from.

I so badly want to leave a profanity laced tirade about how stupid things have gotten due to a generation who got participation trophies, were told that they were special & awesome when they were dumber than dirt and who got put in "time out" instead of having their asses whipped...BUT I won't do that.
If they want a combat patch then they can certainly volunteer to be fillers for units headed to the sandboxes. However, they should be warned that there are sometimes serious consequences that go along with getting that "Shoulder Sleeve Insignia-Former Warrime Service"...

That would be like saying submariners shouldn't wear their dolphins because those who haven't earned them will feel left out. Not only no but fudge no!

Too Damn Bad The New Guys don't Have a Combat Patch - Cause they feel left out - Hey Here's an IDEA - All Those Soldiers that Feel Left Out can Have the Whole Unit shoot Live Ammo at Them so That They can Feel the Same Way While On Deployment (& the Shooting of live ammo at Newbies must go on for as long as Deployment Was) until Then Keep giving out Combat Patches to Those that EARN Them!
