Should we remove combat patches to be sensitive to those who don't have them?

"(Unit Name withheld) BCT ordered to remove combat patches during training at Fort NoMatter so the ones without them don't get hurt feelings.
Reason? "The unit just returned from Afghanistan and almost everyone has a patch but the large influx of new soldiers are E1 and E2s that have never deployed and they are saying they are left out because they don't have a patch."

LOL! The military is a meritocracy, not a self-esteem kindergarten. You want a tab or a patch or a ribbon or a rank? Earn them.

So to not hurt snowflakes everyone should have a minimum medal rack of 18 ribbons? WTH- combat patches are earned, it is a rite of passage, let the kiddies look, and realize that when a combat vet says something, it 1. might be important and 2. It might save their lives.

I’m an E-1 and I know those are earned you can’t just get one you actually have to be deployed, that to me makes no sense that they are being hurt by not having a combat patch, they will just have to wait till the next deployment

Don’t have one too bad, you just came in the Army you have to earn that deployment patch. You don’t just get it used to you like the ones they wear in BCT. Smh these new waves of soldiers are killing this fighting force.

Sad. I came in at the tail-end of the Vietnam era. They even stopped giving out the NDSM about the time I came in. How do you the ones who didn't even have that felt? A medal we used to get at graduation from BCT...
But a combat patch - and even a little colored piece of clothe is something EARNED. Something that's been forgotten. The ASR - there's a participation badge.
I remember the combat vets - the "REAL veterans" during my first hitch and how we looked up to them for leadership and experience. I can only speak for myself, but I also saw the toll they paid for that experience. More than one told us younger guys we hadn't "missed a thing" by not going to Nam. But I know that I, for one had a mixture of relief I didn't have to go while at the same time experienced pang of regret like I'd missed something. But isn't that a part of life - we all only get a chance to do what we can and it is up to us to do well or badly at it - and that is the shame.
I got my chance to go into harm's way and learned they were right, I HADN'T really missed a thing; but did my duty. Guess what, the way this world's going chances are pretty good they, too, will get a chance to EARN their combat patch and when they do, it will be something they can wear with honor.

Hell no. When I was young soldier all the guys I saw with combat patches were Viet Man gets and a few who went to Beirut with the Marines. I looked up to them. I wanted to be them minus the whacked in the head part of certain SFC at Will. I was proud when I earned my Combat Patch. These new soldiers need to stop being mommas boys and grow up.

Wrong answer dick dancer! You don't get an expert rifle badge without earning it. You don't get jump wings without going to jump school. Etc. Learn some patience!

i think we should stop being so judgemental of our fellow servicemembers, and stop the dick measuring...
which means, no longer calling each other POG's and Legs, etc. We all do a job, we all get assigned where Human Resources sends us...
