Should we remove combat patches to be sensitive to those who don't have them?

"(Unit Name withheld) BCT ordered to remove combat patches during training at Fort NoMatter so the ones without them don't get hurt feelings.
Reason? "The unit just returned from Afghanistan and almost everyone has a patch but the large influx of new soldiers are E1 and E2s that have never deployed and they are saying they are left out because they don't have a patch."

When are boys going to grow up and be like men. If you want it you have to earn it. What's our military coming to. 1979 - 1983.

No fucking way! Those were earned by you and they should be warn proudly! Is this a joke? Taking patches off so people don’t feel left out?! What kind of military is this? Things have sure changed since I was in. Wow.......

Let me answer the question with a question, "Should those who have earned awards, decorations or additional skill identifiers not wear them on their uniforms out of respect for those who do not have/have not earned them?" How absurd! If you've earned it - wear it!

No If they want a combat patch maybe they need to volunteer for a unit going to combat then they could have one.

i volunteered to go into a combat Zone little known to me i would be there with no Weapon and not long enough (45 days) to get a combat patch We got shot at but just not enough i guess. Really have not gave it much thought until i seen this post, I was in areas where we got shot at that were never considered for a combat patch a couple of times. You earn one yes you wear it. If you don't earn one don't wear it's simple as that.

Definitely not! They earned it.
That's like saying, "should the General remove his/her rank because the E1's feel left out?"....totally ridiculous. I sure hope the current military isn't as wimpy as it sounds. When I enlisted, feelings didn't count for anything. You sucked it up and moved on. If you wanted something, you earned it. No freebies.

Proud alumnus of Big Red One and 1st Cavalry. You’re gonna ask me not wear something I earned?
Is this like the cowardly Captain in the 1st Cav who plagiarized my flight log and awarded himself 3 of my Air Medals and the Army Aviation Badge because I wasn’t career and he didn’t think it mattered to me?

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIT!! WHAT THE FUCK??? Since when did Tinky Winky (tella tubbys) join the Army and get a fucking command? These people were deployed in a combat area... if you are new and you don't have one, fucking respect those that do, and get the fuck over it!!! SUCK IT UP BUTTERCUPS!!
You think I was upset when I joined a unit and didn't have combat patch from Vietnam? NO! But damned right I respected and thanked everyone I saw serving that had one! WOW! This is just one of the signs that is telling me the Army is getting weak!!!
"Drill Sgt.! I can't do push ups! My Emotional State isn't in the right mood right now!" *HEAD DESK HARD!*

No! I've never been deployed but I would never want to take that away from someone who has, people need to stop getting butthurt over it!

It should be explained to the sensitive soldiers that you receive when you have completed a combat tour. What's next? Issue the same soldiers medals and awards so they are not left out because CSM has 20lbs of metal on his/her chest?

MSG Wally Carmichael Hell no!!!! Those of you that have been in combat deserve everything we can give you. When I coached my sons little league football the parents got toghter and voted that every kid gets a trophy. I quit as coach and pulled my son out and sent him to Jr. High school football where he really excelled.

I worked hard for my patches. I don't care if their feelings are hurt because they need to grow up. What they should do is look up to the people wearing a combat patch for their experiences and knowledge.

Those who earn those patches should wear them with pride; if others are offended by them, that's their problem, NOT the responsibility of the ones wearing the patches! It's the offended who need an attitude adjustment, and catering to their feelings will not accomplish the desired result! Indeed, such "delicate feelings" realistically have no place in the military! What's next? Removing rank/rate insignias so as to not hurt their "feelings", because they're subordinate to others???

I've been retired for well over 13 years now and I'm seriously beginning to wonder about what I used to be apart of!!

Never retreat! Those patches were earned, some by blood. Do not disrespect the Honorable.

Not just no, BUT HE'LL NO. Those that wear a combat patch have earned the right to do so. If these butt hurt PV1 and PVT's don't like it along with the other butter cups, let the fill out a BUTT HURT report.

When I was in the Marine Corps, I served between Vietnam, and everything that came after it. The only things I qualified to wear were the Good Conduct Ribbon, and my marksmanship badges. I would have liked a bit more color, but I also knew I was lucky. I realized I did not serve during a time of conflict, and therefore never faced the risks. I hold no grudge or jealousy for those who have multiple rows of ribbons, before they are E-3s or E-4s. They earned them. Just as important, I would hope I would not be judges simply because I served at a time with lesser risk.

Should you remove your medals because the new guy in the unit doesn't have any? Combat patches are earned just like medals, they will have their opportunities, and really if they are getting their feelings hurt because of Army tradition then they should really reconsider their career goals.

Pride! You earned it through blood, sweat and tears with your brothers and sisters.

Hell no!!! I don't have combat patches but feel that those who do should be proud and show it off. I'm tiered of every one gets a trophy bullsh*t. Let call home and cry to mommy but you wear your very well deserved combat patches and hold your head up high. I'm not saying you should rub it in the faces of those who don't have any but you put your ass out there for this great country and we are proud of you for doing so. Less than 1% of Americans have even served in the armed forces. Let your pride show strong you will always have my gratitude for being brave enough to go and earn such an honorable patch or patch's. I'm sick of people whimpering that they want this or that let them earn it!!
GOD bless you brave souls and I think you owe it to the one's who paid the altimate price to wear them proudly!!!
