Should we remove combat patches to be sensitive to those who don't have them?

"(Unit Name withheld) BCT ordered to remove combat patches during training at Fort NoMatter so the ones without them don't get hurt feelings.
Reason? "The unit just returned from Afghanistan and almost everyone has a patch but the large influx of new soldiers are E1 and E2s that have never deployed and they are saying they are left out because they don't have a patch."

Are you joking. Poor little e-1 and e -3s feelings are hurt. The others did their tour they deserve the recognition. Those that don’t, well .... Helll lets give them the keys to the the Sargent Major club while we are at it.

Patches are just like awards, they are earned. E1's and E2's should look at it as motivation. From what I am reading and interpreting, their feelings are hurt, they need to get over it and earn it. I did.

NO! I enlisted in the late 80”s, my first unit; pretty much everyone E-6/ O-4 and above had a patch from Vietnam, I admired them, they earned it, some years later I earned my first one in Iraq. Like badges and awards, it is something earned. There is no shame in not being afforded the opportunity to qualify, there are thousands of Cold War Veterans who never qualified for a patch who never whined.

Shut up. Realize you are a private. The new guy. The guy that hasn't been anywhere or done anything. Keep your mouth shut, do your job, your time will come. Hell with your feelings.

Ha they are left out, they haven't deployed yet. I got my balls smoked every day along with half my platoon because we were all slick sleeved. "If you aint got a combat patch do push ups" is a phrase I still hear in my nightmares haha. Tell you what though it made sure that the minute I earned the patch it was the one thing I took the most pride in on my uniform and no matter how dicked up my uniform may have been on my worst day my combat patch was still perfect.

Should I not wear a marron beret or jumps wings because not everyone is Airborne? No sir. You want something you have to earn it.
