Should women be required to register with the Selective Service upon turning 18?

Bonus: Why or why not?

With the fight for equality in the military and the recent decision by the Army to open combat arms MOS's to women in the Army, being so much in the news and discussion, do you think that women of the required Selective Service age group should be made to register as their male counterparts are?

Over half of our population should not be exempt from civil/military service. When our county is in need of conscription both sons and daughters should stand up and answer that call.

Why not if we do have equal rights?

No one should have to register. We're all supposed to be in the Militia. If anyone has to register, however, then all should.

CDR Michael Goldschmidt Commander; If "We're all supposed to be in the Militia." then shouldn't there be some program to ensure that "the Militia" is "well regulated"?

Wouldn't that mean some sort of mandatory military training and established command structure with the power to discipline and/or reward?

Do you have any idea how loud the screams of anguish would be if "The Gummint" actually tried to implement the "well regulated" part of the Second Amendment would be?

Militias were supposed to be local, COL, only equipped by the feds. Mandatory military training? Yes. Command structure? Yes. It's already there in both the Militia Act of 1958 and the Constitution, itself. That doesn't mean that firearms need to be regulated or limited. It says simply that a well-regulated militia is necessary to a free state AND the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. If one keeps weapons at home, as Israeli reservists must, then they are available to use if necessary in the militia. That doesn't mean that only those in the militia have a right to keep and bear arms. It simply makes the militia's job easier.

Equality across the board. Selective service, training standards, AR670-1, barracks, latrine, everything. What, you gotta problem? Wa, now beat your face till I'm tired!!

They are equal in every aspect under the law. They should be required to register for the draft.

Yes. Equality. It's a two-way street. If you want to be, earned the right, and proven to be equal, then you properly take on all the pros and cons.

There's a metaphor about eating cake that comes to mind.

People seem to only want equality when it is beneficial. Pure equality means 100% equal the good and the bad. Selective service registration, shaved head during basic, equal pt standards everything.

absolutely.  if you look at other countries that require service, women are not excluded - all must "do their time" so to say.

Yes, I believe it is fair for women to register with the Selective Service, it shouldn't be an issue because women can now serve on the U.S. Navy Ships and women can be in combat roles and Ranger School.
SSG John Bacon
Why not? Women for decades have been asking for equal treatment so lets make it equal.
