I did some research on this when I was going to school to become an X-ray tech. This is some crazy stuff!!! Check out the color film (video) and the pic is from the same test!

SGT Mark Stevens, perhaps crazy from what we know now - but they didn't know about the long term effects of radiation then.

This is true. It's no different then the early scientists working with X-rays and the radiation from it. We actually had consumer X-ray units in shoe stores so you could see how well your feet fit your shoes!

SGT Mark Stevens, I remember those! It was Buster Brown shoe stores. There was very little shielding and kids used to like to play on them.

They say that this is the only color photo of the TrinityTest. Taken by a civilian with a little portable camera…

CPO (Join to see) National Park Service Trinity Test Downwinders
Manhattan Project National Historical Park provides information.

https://www.nps.gov/articles/000/trinity-test-downwinders.htm

Plug in NM Downwinders or Tularosa Downwinders to search and a lot of information comes up.

Also an article from almost a year ago in Missoula Current about legislation.
https://missoulacurrent.com/new-mexico-downwinders/
"Recently, Biden signed a bill that extended the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act for two years, but the act does not cover Downwinders like Cordova or members of her family. The extension enables Congress to tweak the bill to cover Downwinders and also uranium mineworkers in New Mexico, Leger Fernandez said Wednesday, but that hasn’t happened yet."
