Here's my situation folks, My son is station at FT.Hood.He calls me concerning awards yesterday with a few of his squad members because there NCO told them IDK you figure it out,is that what some of the new NCOs tell our young soldier.Tell them you figure it out? or do we tell them okay here's your guidance. You try to figure it out if you can't find the info.get back with me and I'll have an answer for you.I retired In 2005 and I always told my soldiers to look for the information on your owen if they couldn't find it get back with me.(knowledge is power) they do need to learn to use the FM,AR REGS. That's why we have them. I just don't understand the new NCOs if this is the norm.

SSG Brad Shepherd jr, I do not think this is a new norm. The answer your son received from his NCO is definitely the lazy man's way out. Your approach - encouraging your troops to find the answer themselves (first), then coming to you if they get stuck - is a great way to develop junior personnel. Your son's NCO isn't developing, he's alienating.
