Post Update (20 Feb 2020): I have enjoyed reading everyone's comments!

FREE SPEECH is NOT Dead or at best NOT YET Illegal!!! Adults are responding in this post - EXCELLENT! Some are whining! ~2/3's overall per the poll still believe SOTH was disrespectful at some level.

POTUS did have a bit of a chip on his shoulder, for not shaking SOTH hand when extended.

Some seemed to forget former President Clinton's own avoidance of military service (aka deferments) as they excoriated Trump for his deferments - Humm?

The Congress & POTUS need to quit excessive Tweeting and GET TO WORK for "We the people...." Cut the BS!!!

All in All , instructive post! Of course some will defend POTUS regardless, others will defend SOTH regardless.

Some of the adults that responded slammed them both and provided balanced responses that took a deeper critical look! You know who you are! Thank you!

Post Update (12 Feb 2020): Please see my response to SGM(P) (Join to see)'s wise words in this post! Some might just be - surprised!
------------------------------------------
Original Post

Background: By now the world is a buzz with what took place at the end of the SOTU by POTUS and the "ripping" by the SOTH at the end of the speech.

Discussion: While I can respect the opinion of Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia to recommend centure (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPr2EodEAdU), I and many believe that the SOTH's behavior last night is worthy of the SOTH's own centure! The lack of leadership of the SOTH in the 'ripping up" of the SOTU address on live TV is shameful.

It makes NO different if you are RIGHT, CENTER or LEFT. The disrespect shown is not a sign of defiance of this POTUS or solidarity with her party. It is an open attack against "We the people....." As an Independent, I have not always agreed with POTUS on some issues, but that does not mean I will not show the Office of POTUS its proper due, regardless of who hold the office!

I have as does the SOTH the right to "respectfully disagree" as guaranteed under the 1st Amendment; however, as the SOTH the "ripping behavior" boarders on behaviors that reminds me of someone desiring to insight insurrection, but not be held accountable for the actions they transmit.

Recommendation: While the "majority members" of the House will not centure their own Speaker, perhaps the Senate might, in order to send a message to centure the SOTH for such a tantrum during the SOTU!

So my question is this:

Was the behavior of the SOTH a sign that the current SOTH as of Feb 2020 lacks both the maturity and leadership grit to behave in a manner worthy of that office as 3rd in line to be POTUS?

The Speaker and the President both have issues with each other. This is a poorly kept secret. We can go years and years on who was in the right or wrong, but I believe that there were classier methods to show defiance. Our forefathers weren't ripping up speeches, they MADE them. They spoke with eloquence, passion, and reason without sinking to a petty level. Neither the President, who frequently uses insults and put-downs, nor the Speaker, who does exactly the same, have done that. To me, both sides are acting like kids and it makes the rest of us look bad.

The Democrats and Nancy Pelosi have done everything under the Sun to get rid of President Trump. So I would say when she ripped up the SOTU speech it was an act of frustration.

How many times will you harp on the same. There have been no laws broken. No part of the Constitution states a piece of of paper can be torn. Are you going to censure Orange Impotus for showing disrespect by not shaking Speaker Pelosi's hand. I think not. CPO Nate S. I believe it is time to move on to more pressing matters facing our country. If you hate Speaker Pelosi so much. Why not just ignore. But, to defend a Draft Dodger is beyond comprehension to say the least. Remember Nate. Orange IMPOTUS deserted his post by slapping the US in the face. Your backing the wrong horse.

Nate you are wasting time with everyone. You started this mediocre b/s. If you want to honor a DRAFT DODGER that is your provocative. As far as I am concern Orange IMPOTUS is a non-person. Orange IMPOTUS wasn't elected. Putin put him in office.
Orange IMPOTUS is not president of my country I fought for to allow sleaze balls like him to have freedoms NOT deserve. Mentioning President Obama in your post to me has no baring. It is the typical distraction all you Right Wing Nuts use. Another thing Nate. President Barack Obama had a WHITE MOTHER. This would make President Barack Obama Bi-Racial, wouldn't it? Now! Please call your friends at Foxy Noise. Continue listening to all the lies you can muster. In the event you haven't quite grasped the meaning of IMPOTUS? Orange freak face .........IMPEACHED prez of the US. Donald John Trump, Sr (R), (IMP) for life.

Per Webster's or ANY Dictionary for that matter.

Acquit - ac·quit /əˈkwit/ verb past tense: acquitted; past participle: acquitted

1. free (someone) from a criminal charge by a verdict of not guilty.
"she was acquitted on all counts"

Similar: absolve, clear, exonerate, exculpate, declare innocent, find innocent, pronounce not guilty, discharge, release, liberate, emancipate, free, set free, deliver, spare, exempt, dismiss, vindicate, let someone off (the hook)

Opposite: convict

2. conduct oneself or perform in a specified way.
"all the young women in the contest acquitted themselves well"

In no way was TSOH disrespectful to ORANGE IMPOTUS. Seeing the responses is beyond a doubt pure idiocy. Did any of you turn coats see Orange IMPOTUS SHAKE THE HAND OF TSOH.......NO!!!!!!
THIS WAS MORE DISRESPECTFUL. A 5 time Draft Dodger and you people defend Mr Bone Spur. Mr Bone SPUR signed an executive order last Tuesday denying 200,000 jobs the Department of Veterans Affairs desperately is in need. This is an IMPOTUS stating in 2016. "VETERANS ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT TO OUR NATION." This is the same Orange IMPOTUS, presented a BUDGET to the Congress last week with sizable cuts to Veterans, Disable, Seniors, SSA, Medicare, Medicaid. ORANGE IMPOTUS is still referring to SSA, Medicare, Medicaid as entitlements. People......We worked for those benefits. And you people are worried about lies being torn. By the by CPO Nate S. It is CENSURE. Next time leave the "T" out.

Hummmmmm!

PFC Ray Aquila I am a "Senior" too. I have long been concerned from both sides of aisle regarding the need to restructure the "benefits" processes you spoke about. The issue begins within the definitions themselves:

- en·ti·tle·ment (/inˈtīdlmənt,enˈtīdlmənt/) a noun - the fact of having a right to something.

- ben·e·fit (/ˈbenəfit/) a noun -

(1) an advantage or profit 'gained from something' that produces good or helpful results or effects or that promotes well-being.. (e.g. "enjoy the benefits of being a member" OR "reaping the benefits of their hard work")

(2) a payment, service, gift made by an employer, the state, or an insurance company provided for under an annuity, pension plan, or insurance policy (e.g. collecting his retirement benefits, etc.)

(3) financial help in time of sickness, old age, or unemployment. (e.g. disability benefits)

(4) archaic - an act of kindness

(5) as a verb - receive an advantage; profit. (e.g. "the areas would benefit from regeneration")

From purely a definitions perspective how these are viewed is also a matter of how they "marketed". For those who have earned them through work or other documented service they are a "benefit"; however, so believe they are entitled to what you and I have earned, because we have worked for it in some fashion. I believe, and could wrong, but I am entitled to "...Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness..." as you and others equally are. Yet, some believe they are "entitled" benefits they have NOT earned. When those who have not otherwise EARNED benefits others who have worked them, believe they are ENTITLED to a share of those benefits with the benefit of EARN the same so how, at leas to me seems - UNFAIR! That is like me saying hey Ray you worked really hard and earn $1,000, and me plus three other coming up to you and saying "I really appreciate you earning that money for me and I think you should share what you have worked hard for so I can continue to live a life style that does not require me to make any effort. Is that fair to you? To anyone?

POTUS, understands people who earned should retain what they have earned. But, I think he also believes that too many think they are "entitled" to what you and I have worked hard for and wants restructure thinks so that those who can provide for themselves don't also believe they are entitled to my share as well as their share or also want your share plus my share as their their they have not otherwise earned.

Years ago Social Security and other benefits should have been placed in what former VP Al Gore called a "Lock Box" that kept the Congress and their pet project hands out of OUR collective pockets!!! But, that did not take place! Will I did not vote for Gore, HE was 100% correct, the SS and other benefits had in fact, remained unprotected for those like you and I and others. It galls me that disable veterans are more often than not denied, when others who have not served and sacrificed believe it is OK to steal from us to line their own pockets with gains they have earned, nor deserve.

Lets also not go down the road "draft-dodgers", the govern put in place rules that allowed some to use "legal" and other like former President Clinton to also not serve. Many on both sides of the aisle today are as guilty!!! So, this is also a non-starter! I don't defend him or others, yet, in a side by side comparison the list of draft dodging current democrats is much longer than the list of draft dodging current republicans.

The POTUS should not have do what Congress lacks the GUTS to do and to secure the future of these benefits in a ways that is fair and appropriate and TRANSPARENT so these kinds of discussion never have to take place in the 1st place. You and I only have 1 POTUS but "We the people..." have 535 members of Congress that need to do their jobs for US (you and me) - "We the people..."! The lack of Congress's ability to act on behalf of the people that elected them in a "..true and faithful..." manner is OUR problem. As with any POTUS, they are challenged to push back and challenge even their own parties to "...do the right...think!"

Finally, I simply misspelled CENTURE as CENSURE. It happens. Sometimes, you simply move a little faster than one should. If you want to be the spelling and grammar police please do it equally!!! It is not like my misspelling was an unchecked bleeding artery. No one died! That is always a cheap shot!

SFC Michael Peterson there’s no equivalency here. 1. Obama didn’t lie, tweet and name call DAILY 2. Accusing a president of lying because you don’t like him is ugly, defamatory and undignified. Pelosi just used a symbolic gesture far less inflammatory than el jefe’s daily diatribes.

I’m no fan of Pelosi, as it happens, but as I say—it’s rich when one symbolic act draws howls of outrage when actual, daily lies, nene calling and aiding and abetting the enemy are given a pass.

History will not be kind to this presidency.

PO2 Philip Mayfield, yeah, it's like a Counseling Statement. It doesn't mean anything. It won't matter come November anyway. Bernie is going to win the democrat nomination. The democrat party is going to implode, Trump will be reelected and, the republicans will take the House. We get to keep our money and our guns. Life is good.

Capt Walter Miller - The problem we have in our US. We have military personnel backing a Draft Dodger. They just don't care MR BONE SPUR slapped the US in the face with 5 fake deferments. Mr Bone Spur is a Coward, Crook , Con Artist. Some years ago. Mr Bone Spur was on the Howard Stern show. Howard asked why he didn't go to Vietnam. Mr Bone Spurs: "THE DATING GAME IS MY VIETNAM." Walt you're backing the wrong horse. Orange IMPOTUS is sleaze ball. You can have the IMPEACHED JERK.
