Star trek vs. star wars to which universe do you belong
Star Trek & Star Wars have dominated science fiction popular culture for decades. Each is distinct with little overlap and each possesses its own unique characters, locations, technologies and philosophies. Towards which universe to you tend to gravitate and why?

I still stand firm in the Star Wars universe but I am a huge fan of Star Trek. I wanted to share this bit of Star Trek AWESOMENESS however........

Gene spent his boyhood in Los Angeles, where he later studied three years of policemanship and then transferred his academic interest to aeronautical engineering and qualified for a pilot's license. He volunteered for the U.S. Army Air Corps in the fall of 1941 and was ordered into training as a flying cadet when the United States entered World War II. As a Second Lieutenant, Roddenberry was sent to the South Pacific where he entered combat at Guadalcanal, flying B-17 bombers out of the newly captured Japanese airstrip, which became Henderson Field. He flew missions against enemy strongholds at Bougainville and participated in the Munda invasion. He was decorated with the Distinguished flying Cross and the Air Medal.
It was while in the South Pacific, that Mr. Roddenberry began to write. He sold stories to flying magazines, and later poetry to publications, including The New York Times. He even wrote a song lyric "I Wanna Go Home", which became a popular song during the war.

So with all that being said of Gene Roddenberry being a vet how can you still pick an inferior sci fi over Star Trek????

Most definitely live in a joint space/time continuum between the two. Depending on my mood (and what's on at the time!).

I loved Star Wars as a child but enjoy Star Trek as an adult. I still like the original Star Wars Trilogy but despise the prequels and care little for the expanded universe.

I agree with your statement in a sense and give you a thumbs up, because I understand where you are coming from and do concur....to an extent!

I don't think they are [the worst] thing to happen in cinema, I'm sure there are worse....maybe. They certainly are very bad...but they could [possibly] be the worst. My dad told me "no matter how bad you think you have it...someone [always] has it worse". I apply that to everything.

Now....Jar-Jar Binks [has] to be the [most abhorred] CGI movie character on the silver screen....bar none. There were many polls back in the day that pretty much made that a known fact.

I printed out Jar-Jar Binks targets for range whenever I would go shooting after episode one came out. LUCAS....WHY DOEST THOU SMITE ME??!!!!

You still get the thumbs up in any case. Enjoy!

Three things ruined the Star Wars prequels

1. Bad direction and plot from George Lucas
2. Over-reliance on CGI
3. Wooden acting and bad lines. See point #1 for blame.

How to get Star Wars back on track

!. New director- JJ Abrams- check
2. More special effects (makeup, ship models, actors/actresses in costumes) less CGI- check
3. Original cast- check

Star Wars Episode 7 can't come soon enough for me...

Ewoks didn't ruin Star Wars but Jar Jar did make me want to stick something long, thin and sharp into my ears before gouging out my eyes? Not saying the Ewoks were great but they didn't make me want to self inflict bodily injury?

Dang! I almost thought you were going to actually make me choose sides. That would be so wrong in so many geeky sort of ways.  I totally grew up watching Star Trek as a kid and I remember going to the first Star Wars movie...and the second..and the third.  It just never ends.

They are both great Sci-Fi series. Star Trek for the hope of the Future. And Star Wars for the fantasy of a Galaxy Far Far Away.

Each one carries with it fascinating stories that tickle the imagination. I am not defending J.J. Abrams, but personally, I am not really holding my breath for this next Star Wars movie. Especially when Disney is calling the shots now.....

Star Trek is great and all but one thing bothers me. There is a complete lack of enlisted personnel on the ship. And don't say redshirts, even those are ensigns. You know damn well. Commander LaForge isn't going to crawl into a Jeffrey's tube to fix anything. There will be a MWSC (SW) (machinist mate warp senior chief (space warfare)) that will tell DS1 (SW) (deflector shieldman 1st class(space warfare)) to get someone to fix the Jeffrey's tube. Then DS1 (SW) will tell DS3 to take a couple of guys to go clean the Jeffrey's tube. DS3 will grab SN and SA ( Spaceman and Spaceman Apprentice) from the Jeffrey's tube shack who will go try to clean the tube but fuck it up so that DS2 (SW) has to come fix it.
