With the recent amount of stolen valor it is hard to keep up with all the different threads being posted here on RallyPoint. From this point forward if you have a stolen valor question, comment, and or post, then add it here. The posts that currently exist will stay, as we don't want to lose the already existing discussion content. If you have started a stolen valor post prior to this and wish to have it merged to this one then feel free to let me know and I will merge that for you. The initial post will be gone but the discussion content will be merged to this posting.

Cpl (Join to see). Yes . . . stolen valor should be a punishable offense . . . perhaps on par with major fraud and identity theft . . . but as much as we feel for long lost brothers and sisters . . . taking matters into our own hands may risk major legal penalties. Warmest Regards, Sandy
I agree that unless they are attempting or succeeding in comiting fraud to earn money they did not earn lt would give them attention they do not deserve. I mean people thought i was stealing valor but i got at basic i didnt claim anything that was not true.

Can someone tell me how to look into someone I suspect is lying about their "service" this guy is claiming that he served with H Company 5th Marines, as a "Classified" recon Marine, from 1993-1998... I would like to confirm he was with said unit... If he never was part of that Unit, I would like to know so that I can have someone call him out on it.

SSG (Join to see) I couldn't agree more. I don't have a problem with calling any case of phonies "stolen valor" even if they aren't breaking the law. I don't even have a problem with posting their photo online to poke a little fun at them. Some of the memes that get generated are hilarious. However, I'm bothered by how wound up soldiers get over this. I am confident in who I am as a soldier, and somebody who wasn't, but claims to be, for whatever reason he might have, simply doesn't threaten me.

I agree. Calling someone out... making things uncomfortable for them....not a problem. My problem is with the posting to social networks and seeming glory seekers for "discovering" the imposter.

SFC Pakenham, maybe it does look like a gang sign. I don't know about gang signs and I assure you that was not the intent. Is that really all you got out of my couple of paragraphs?

I did read your whole post and I disagree with you. Exposing posers on social media first off embarrasses the offender, and second may discourage others from trying the same. Personally I find it entertaining to see one of these pathetic turds publically outed.

SFC Pakenham, I also find it entertaining, but a) there are too many of these posts so we, as an armed force, look whiny, and b) these people aren't actually breaking a law (sometimes...depends on the specific circumstances).
Separate from that, Merry Christmas.

Isn't it ironic that these individuals do not try and be normal service members like an E-5, or anything. Instead, they opt for a Sergeant Major with several Purple Hearts, or an Sergeant First Class with a Ranger tab.
I guess they didn't read AR 670-1, or they've never heard the saying, 'Less is more'.

You know, we should set the standard as leaders not be mean to these people who pose as veterans or service members. Just kidding!

Recently had someone complaing about a guy wearing desert uniform to a Halloween party. He admitted he wasn't in the service. What got him into hot water was he jokingly said "I could get away with anything". Everyone screamed stolen valor but he isn't trying to get money, wasn't wearing unauthorized medals, he just wore put rank lol. Many talk about people faking and claiming high rank and this guy did none of the above. I say not stolen valor...Opinions?

Is he wearing a "I Suck At Fighting" brazard? Why don't poser just google "how to wear a military uniform" if they are going to pose.
