How do you respond when someone says "Thank you for your service"?

Just plain, "thank you sir or ma'am"

Thanks for your support

Thank you for being a Good Citizen 'cause
I couldn't have done my job without you.

Same…thank you…it was an honor!

I just say "No, thank you for paying your Taxes."

To my family and friends: You were worth it. To strangers: Thank you, it was a privilege to serve.

I wear my command ball caps every where so when a person say thank you for your service! I thank them right back for their comment, if they are also service connected I return the comment! Living in the Pensacola/Milton Fl. area you receive a lot of thank you for your service comments from civilians and other veterans! The western part of the Florida panhandle is the home to many military installations!

Usually remind the kids that like every Irish American generation of Americans in my family did out citizen duty, thanks for the respect. Then they go any further with questions I remind them that only 1 percent of the population actually shows up for duty.

Agreed it always seems awkward when you hear that; however, I used to say "It was my honor - Thank you." Recently have started answering their thank you differently - I now say "You are welcome, you were worth it." I over heard that from another vet, when a person was thanking him for his service. The person's response was "excuse me?" to which the vet replied - "I served because I love my country and all those within nor do I regret my service or all the time that I had to dedicate to complete my time. Which means it was all worth it and in turn means you were worth it." After thinking about it, I was taken with what he said and thought wow I that was really heart felt, I like that sentiment so now that is what I say. So to the unknow vet - thank you sir!

I mostly say, "Someone has to be þe warrior." I get odd looks sometimes because many people just say it out of habit or þeir boss told þem to.
