I've never asked this question, and I've never seen anyone else ask it, but I'm curious. What do you say when someone thanks you for your service?
My Military ID is right next to my driver's license and debit card in my wallet, so it's visible if I have to show my driver's license for something or if I'm taking my debit card out to use. Very often, someone who sees it will ask what branch I was in. Then they will thank me for my service. My usual answer is "Thank you for your support." But I'm curious about how others respond to that.

I say, thank you I appreciate it. This question has been around a few times in the past years.

Drafted army grunt in Vietnam, 71-72. I view this as a period of indentured servitude that I thankfully survived. Not all that I served with were so furtunate.

outwardly I am very polite and say Thank you, it is much appreciated, but inwardly I feel disgust. I am a Vietnam Combat Veteran Yet 68, and they should have been saying that back then, Some people you know they are sincere, but other s it is like a broken record.

I'm an old Vietnam era vet and for the most part it still makes me uncomfortable. My usual reply is Your Welcome it was my honor to serve

I just say thank you even if I feel like I haven't done anything. We are representative of the military, so we need to be professional about it even if we have our own personal feelings about whatever we feel about our time in the service or if we are currently in it.

Usually, my reply is "no need for all that. but its appreciated".

But then there then there is those that are attention seekers and demand you thanked them for their service and those blue falcons are not my cup of tea.
In closing, I want to thank each and every one of you for your service from this grateful veteran.
