I've never asked this question, and I've never seen anyone else ask it, but I'm curious. What do you say when someone thanks you for your service?
My Military ID is right next to my driver's license and debit card in my wallet, so it's visible if I have to show my driver's license for something or if I'm taking my debit card out to use. Very often, someone who sees it will ask what branch I was in. Then they will thank me for my service. My usual answer is "Thank you for your support." But I'm curious about how others respond to that.

"Thank you for your support".
Comical answer when it's someone you know, "Don't thank me, I get paid to do this."

The best way to thank a Veteran is at the voting booth! By that I mean using the vote to support the U,S Constitution.

I simply say "You were worth it." and I get the strangest look from them and then it turns to a big smile. Sometimes it generates a reply about them never have thought of it that way and now they have a greater appreciation for our sacrifice for our country.

I usually say “Thank you “, if it’s another veteran I always say “right back at you Brother or Sister “ which ever they are.

I just say you're welcome, it was a pleasure. I used to be embarrassed because I don't feel I deserved anything except my retirement check. Then my wife told me to smile, be polite and thank them for their support.

That’s a tough one for me because I spent 6 years in the peacetime reserves. 81-87

But I do know that at one time in my life I gave Uncle Sam a blank check which he chose to cash any way he wanted.

He wanted me to drive forklift one weekend a month and 2 weeks in the summer for 6 years.

I did want to go back in in 90 but I had 2 little babies. My wife said she’d divorce me if I did.
