Bergdahl, who was charged earlier this year being deserter, was exchanged in May 2014 for five senior Taliban members being held in the Guantanamo Bay detention center [one of the detainees is believed to have returned to militancy]...According to CNN, intercepted communications from the suspected detainee indicate he has reached out to his Taliban comrades to encourage additional attacks in a war in which the Obama administration has drawn down US forces.

“Our report finds that the Administration clearly broke the law in not notifying Congress of the transfer,” said Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-Texas), chairman of the House Armed Services Committee. “Pentagon officials best positioned to assess the national security risks were left out of the process, which increases the chances of dangerous consequences from the transfer. It is irresponsible to put these terrorists that much closer to the battlefield to settle a campaign promise and unconscionable to mislead Congress in the process.”

It sucks that we had to go get him to start off with, and now the traded detainees are going to return to the battlefields. Big surprise.
