During reception, before BCT, the blue book was an inspectable item. We had to memorize a lot of the information in it and they would quiz us all the time. During BCT it was used as a reference tool for anything that our DS would make us look up and have memorized for the next day.

I have my Green Army Smart book, got another one just before graduation and laminated the front and back, it is in my "I Love Me" box

I just had a Gray "Smart Book" from Basic & AIT.

The one from Basic turned to dust, The one from AIT is in good shape in my pile of Army stuff

I sure have being in an OSUT unit. I have one in my cabinet. Great book and I am reading up on it.

We had something very similar to that when I went through basic training (not all that long ago! LOL! ) only it was then called the SMART Book (and if you weren't actively reading it, it was in your top left pocket). May have even had the same pub number back then but I honestly never paid attention to that... it was what was between the covers that mattered! LOL!

I have a hard copy of this version, the previous version, and the old Level 1 sitting around here somewhere. They are amazing references to have around.
