Secretary of State John Kerry Stated, "this is a fight that belongs to the Iraqis. That is exactly what the president and the world decided
some time ago when we left Iraq, so we are not obviously contemplating returning. We are not contemplating putting boots on the ground. This is their fight. ... We will help them in their fight, but this fight, in the end, they
will have to win and I am confident they can"
What are your thoughts about the United States pouring more money and resources into Iraq?

SGT Cotton,
Great question, but I think its too late for money to have an affect and the fight is already close to the gates of the green zone. If the Iraqi PM is fired and replaced and the Kurds will work with the Iraqi Army they have all they need to destroy ISIS forces in Iraq. I don't know if the will is there.

There are lot of problem with the Kurds, and all this talk of helping them, they are more fractionalize than Iraq. What everyone fails to realize, their have been rebellions in Turkey, Iraq, Iran, and Syria going on since the end of WWII on and off. All independent of one of another, against their own government, many time organized and supported by a neighboring government in order to bring disorder to the sitting government of their neighbors. It is amazing that ISIS/ISIL/IS has so much success in Iraq, but in parts of Syria held by other rebels group, but it seems not be moving to swiftly held by Syria Government which it supposedly has as much problem with. Just an observation at this point.

PV2 Abbott Shaull ISIS/ISIL/IS, whatever their name today is, does not seem to do well fighting a bunch of Kurdish women. I agree with SFC Matthew Parker for there to be a measure of success, the Iraqi's and Kurds need to work together. As long as there is division, the terrorist will win. That is sort of how they got such a foothold in Iraq anyway, divide and conquer.
The terrorist were hoping we pulled out soon. Honestly, it was the US that kept the different factions together. regardless of what one thinks about what should/could have been, the bottom line is, the terrorists are taking over Iraq. The only hope to defeat them is if all the factions come together for a common cause.
If they can't learn to put there differences aside and try to work together no amount of money or support from anywhere will help.

It is very well documented, that not all Muslims are equal fighters. Depending on where one comes from and traditions, and values they grew up with. ISIS/ISIL/IS is not a group from one tribe, it is band of people who come together under a common believe, much like the U.S. Military is. Just different brand of organizations. The Kurdish women, well I am not surprise, lets say they have had some OTJT over the years.

US Foreign Policy is an interesting animal. We have money going all over the place and to countries that I need a map to find out where it is located. With regards to Iraq, this is something that we should have as seen as on the horizon. Funding is one thing. Boots on the ground is another. The former is much better in my book than the latter.

Yes, throwing cash and other support at corrupt system will help them to fail even on Greater scale again.

Obama's answer to everything, tax something and throw money at it. Money solves all problems. Sending 275 additional boots to protect the embassy is not going to help anything. If the Iraqi people can win this fight, I am all for it. However, the insurgents have been bombing them since we pulled out.
In my opinion, lets empty the embassy then level it and then wait for Obama to grow a pair to see what we do next. Perhaps he should contact Putin to see what he thinks. Without any REAL leadership from this administration, I do not see any scenario that will have a positive outcome.

Rick, the war on terror is not like World War II where one could tell where enemy lines are.

LCpl Steve Wininger you are quite correct, but at the same time, both the Bush Administration and Obama Administration with Leadership coming from the President with clear and concise plan and responsibility on who was in charge, and who was responsible for what for each of the various Departments that had people on the Ground. No one should of been given immunity of the Laws of the land, if the Military have to live by ROE, then everyone else associated with rebuilding have to also live by them too. Next both Administration failed to increase the size of the active Military in reality. Yes we increase the number of Brigades, but we didn't increase the real number units. When you increase the number of Brigades by decreasing the number of Battalions and Companies in the remaining and new Brigades, have you really increased the Army? Yes, you have increased the Army on paper, to make it appear that you have done so to people who are unwilling to accept the cold hard facts that to fight a War, that you have to make an investment into the Military. Which in turns means we have to rebuild our Industrial base, which over the last 40 years has been leaving our shores for places where they can find cheaper labor. Which means those who used to work making decent money are now working jobs paying half of what they used to make. Those who are joining the work force can't find the high paying jobs, or the mid level jobs, because they are taken by people with experience who used to hold the high end jobs. So they have low paying jobs, many times working only part-time with no benefits, so of course they are paying taxes, but they also have to collect welfare and/or food stamps to support their family. Yet the Corporations, Companies, Mom and Pops stores, they all fail to realize without giving livable wage it to support our families at home, is just as much an enemy to 'us' as anything that ISIS/ISIL can do. There are many other problems we have here that we ignore, and we keep trying to tell others how to police themselves, while we do piss poor job of police ourselves or supporting the ones who need help here. Why do you think so many young people from here are going out to support these people. They are seeing 'Us' as bunch of hypocrites who don't look at ourselves in the mirror before we try to police the world.
Yes, with the modern warfare, there are no front-lines. Putin has been privately support them for a long time, since it seems they haven't moved against Syria Capital openly, but making strides toward Turkey a NATO ally, and Iraq a supposedly US ally. They are fighting in areas where other rebels are fighting. The Syria Government, like his father, have been sponsor of various known Terrorist groups over the years depending on the need to get back at Isreal, without drawing their Forces in direct conflict with Isreal. These forces have been used to attack U.S. interest for years by the former Soviet Union until it collapse and Russia when it suited them. Yes, some Leaders of the Soviet Union and Russia truly wanted to warm up relationships with the U.S. and West, but there also been element of the former Communist Party and KGB who went underground in 1989/1990. I think we are looking at their efforts in Putin current Presidency right now, and the things going on in Syria/Iraq, in the Ukraine, and other parts of the worlds. We have been lulled into false security of not having the Iron Curtain, and Berlin Wall and other issue out there, we forgotten there are People and Organizations out there in the World that wish the U.S., Canada, and Western Europe weren't supporters and Champions of the Free World. Let's face, we have let out Military get to a state we would be very hard press to fight anywhere in serious fight. Let alone another protracted fight, without Government spending some money on the Industrial base of the U.S. It about time we all wake up, or we can just ignore the signs and stay shut up.

It is a money pit, we are already in economical straights ourselves, and the president and Congress keep saying we have to cut the defense budget to include retiree/veteran benefits, but we will be sending money and aid to Iraq, I guess the military, retirees, dependents and all will have to suffer more cuts, because we don't want to reduce the money we are giving to illegals via benefits that most Americans can't get or afford.
