When I was active duty I went Marine Corps Regs and wanted to know from the perspective of not only the Marines, but other Corpsmen as well.

The Marines that I served with did not care what uniform I wore, whether it was my Cracker Jacks or BDU Green at the time. What mattered the most is the care I gave to them when they were down and out. I chose to stay Navy Regs, and earned the title Doc by serving with them in the mud and muck. So if you so choose to go with the Marine Regs I say that is great. We never claimed to be Marines but served with them with honor and dignity, pride and proud to have served. Besides, where else could you get into a Marine/Navy fight and not get hit by one Marine. =)

Army guy. I was clueless about this! This is STRAC. My son's father in law, retired NAVY nurse LCDR, was corpsman with combat Marines in VN. His dress sword is cooler than mine (I do not have one, except VMI keydet one).

I never went Maribe Regs. The sad part is that it was because I didn't want to have to maintain the extra uniforms on my own dime. Different time, different mind set. If I were to take me now and go back, I would have.

It is a rare privilege to serve two branches of the service at the same time. I did not go Corps standards but respect all that did. It is largely a personal decision that everyone has to make. I see absolutely nothing wrong with wearing the Marine uniform if you qualify for it. You get a great deal of respect (and harassment) from the Marines but it makes them feel that you want to be there. I wore my Navy uniforms squared away and got many comments from the troops. In the end, it is not the uniform they respect but the man in the uniform.

Is it just for what uniform you will wear or is it which standards you follow? No idea what anyone on here is talking about haha.

Honestly, Corpsman are like honorary Marines. Marines in every camp hound the Navy Sailors there to follow Marine Corps regulations like haircuts, shaving, etc. However, a Navy Corpsman didn't go through Marine Corps Recruit Depot basic training to earn the title. Thus, dressing in Marine Corps regulations service charlies trousers is not acceptable. By Navy Standards you are to wear the Navy Blue Service Trousers.

So Staff Sgt. you're underline message in Pt. 2 of your message before saying he earned it, is calling me a punk ass junior Marine who falls out of hump, march, etc. because, I only reached the rank of Lance Cpl.?

Cut the shit bro, I have never fallen out of a hump, march or any PT exercises and ran faster Combat Fitness Tests with a perfect 300, then all the other Marines in the 1st Marine Logistics Group in 2010 when the experiment was being implemented and again in 2011 when it was a part of the composition scores. On humps I was running with an added 40-60 lbs of camera gear to document the hump, march, marathon, etc. as evident in my Facebook Albums.

With the picture, were you trying to rub it in my face that you got promoted to Corporal or proof that you're a Marine who cannot follow Uniform Regulations? I seen that you got promoted to Sgt. in the Marine Corps and I hope to god you had an NCO Belt Buckle by then. In this picture, you had a NON-NCO belt buckle with Corporal Chevrons and with blood stripe trousers. I hope you would have known that all NCO's are required to have an NCO Belt Buckle which has the EGA. The sad thing is that you have a service strip to mark at least FOUR years in the military to have known the rules on Dress Blues and yet you still didn't have one. I'm pretty positive that, that haircut is way out of grooming standards even for the 1970's or 1980's.

FYI: My composition score was in the high 1700's before I got out of the Marine Corps and if my MOS wasn't constantly closed I would have been promoted to Corporal a whole lot faster. However, I work for what I earn and I don't get on my knees to get it. Also, to point out that my cousin HM3 Michael Delmundo is a Corpsman who had served on Camp Pendleton under the same unit and combat tour and saved my life. Yes, they earned it and if you read the first statement I said, "Corpsman are like honorary Marines."

I appreciate your service and dedication to the United States with you serving over thirty years and in four branches. However, if your going to make some generalization about junior Marines and try to dog on me for being a Junior Marine my entire career, being a retiree or not, be prepared to be figuratively smacked in the face with a rebuttal. You're not the first NCO, SNCO I have figuratively smacked into place with MCO's, Regulations and Operations Rules.

Now as for the Corpsman Uniform:

GENERAL (UNIFORMS FOR PERSONNEL SERVING WITH MARINE UNITS)
6501

6501. GENERAL (UNIFORMS FOR NAVAL PERSONNEL SERVING WITH MARINE UNITS)

1. Navy officers may purchase and wear Marine Corps service uniforms at their option. When the Marine Corps service uniform is worn, Navy officers will abide by Marine Corps grooming and physical appearance standards and the uniform will be worn in the manner prescribed for Marine officers, except as otherwise specified in the USMC uniform regulations. Those officers who do not elect to wear Marine Corps service uniforms will wear the equivalent Navy service uniform and abide by Navy grooming and physical appearance standards. Navy officers may purchase and wear camouflage utility uniforms at their option. When utilities are worn, Navy officers may elect to abide by either Navy or Marine Corps uniform regulations, as outlined for Navy enlisted in the USMC uniform regulations. However, subdued grade insignia will not be worn on the utility uniform, regardless of whether Navy or Marine Corps regulations are followed.

2. Enlisted Navy personnel assigned to Marine Corps organizations may wear service uniforms prescribed for enlisted personnel of the Marine Corps following applicable directives. Enlisted Navy personnel wear Marine Corps utilities when directed by the commanding officer. Utility uniforms are furnished at no expense to the enlisted member. Navy personnel assigned to Marine Corps units may wear Marine Corps uniforms on temporary additional duty. Wear the Marine Corps service and utility uniforms, including insignia, following Marine Corps uniform regulations.

3. Enlisted Navy personnel who elect to wear Marine Corps service uniforms must maintain only those naval uniforms and accessories needed during their assignment to Marine Corps units and for travel to and from those assignments as follows:

a. Chief Petty Officer (Men)

Item
Service Dress Blue uniform complete
Service Dress White uniform complete
Reefer or all-weather coat, blue
Shoes, black
Shoes, white
Socks, black
Socks, white

b. Chief Petty Officer (Women)

Item
Service Dress Blue uniform complete
Service Dress White uniform complete

Shoes, black
Shoes, white
Stockings/Lingerie

c. Enlisted Men Other Than Chief Petty Officer

Item Quantity

Service Dress Blue uniform complete 1
Summer White uniform complete 1
Peacoat or all-weather coat, blue 1
Gloves, black 1 pr.
Shoes, black dress 1 pr.
Socks, black 8 pr.
Towels 2
Undershorts 6 pr.
Undershirts 6

d. Enlisted Women Other Than Chief Petty Officer

Item Quantity

Service Dress Blue uniform complete 1
Summer White uniform complete 1
All-weather coat, blue 1
Gloves, black 1 pr.
Shoes, black dress 1 pr.
Towels 2
Stockings/Lingerie As needed

4. GROOMING. Navy personnel assigned to Marine Corps units who elect to wear and are issued Marine Corps service uniforms at no expense will abide by grooming standards established for Marines. Navy personnel assigned to Marine Corps units who do not elect to wear Marine Corps service uniforms will be issued only utilities and shall abide by grooming standards for Navy personnel.

Going by this order in which I found, he has the option to wear SERVICE and/or Utility Marine Corps uniforms, so I retract what I said earlier about him not acceptable. However, he WILL abide by Marine Corps uniform regulations. As evident by the picture, the Corpsman in the photograph is not wearing the uniform as per Marine Corps Uniform Regulations. The blouse isn't properly fastened with shirt stays and is loose around the waist. Cannot properly see the belt lining nor, the length in which the trousers are. Also, as per Marine Grooming standards he does not have a Marine Regulated Haircut as far as I can see, even after lighting the picture using Adobe CS6 Photoshop. Not to mention the bulge in his left breast pocket, looks like he has a wallet in there, when only a Military ID and credit/debit cards are only allowed.

As a Corpsman with the Marines, I earned the right to wear marine regs. I was side by side with my marines on all of the humps in full gear and an added Med pack which weighed 35Lbs with IV’s while helping carry a down Marine. Made every run, and on my time off ( if you can call it that) I was treating wounds, and making sure my marines were being treated fairly at the hospital. So please don’t tell me I didn’t earn my keep. After all, it might be you one day who will have kids of your own whom will depend on one of those dedicated NAVY Corpsman in training or in battle.
