Too many to remember..lol. Always loved when it would rain mud.
I dug out a photo from FOB Marez Mosul, 2011. This wasn't too bad...could actually see..lol. The color always made it feel like i was on another planet.

Nothing like that but a different variant of the same concept. I'm a Mt Pinatubo Survivor. Volcanic Ash with Rain courtesy of Typhoon Yunya. Warm wet cement raining down from above.

Oh, joy. I'd managed to block those memories.

I ought to dig out some of my "red planet" pics from Balad.

Experience some special sand storm moments there too. It was always an ominous feeling when you could see the wall of sand coming down on the horizon. You knew it was coming but you couldn't do nothing about it except to take cover.

If you were in tents, there really wasn't such a thing as "cover". Had some frame tents turned into art sculptures in Tallil in 2003.

This picture brought back so many memories. How many of you have experienced one of these glorious sand storms while deployed?

Yea, the one we had near Al Qiam sucked. We out on top of the bluff and got nailed. Had sand in every crease in my skin. Every caught a cold after that also.

One blew in while I was at BIAP waiting to catch a flight to Kuwait and home on EML, May 2005. There was no room inside the tents, so I laid on the ground on my ruck, cinched my boonie cap over my face, and went to sleep. When I woke up, the sand storm had passed and I was covered in about a 0.5" of sand.

Wow Sir, I can only imagine. I've always had some sort of cover each time that I was around for one of those sand storms.

Well, no sandstorms, but in my Navy days, I survived Typhoon Rose off the coast of North Viet Nam in 1971, not to mention some thirty odd hurricanes and other typhoons in the Pacific. Being on an Aircraft Carrier for several of them did not ensure a much better ride than the two Tin Cans I was also on during those years. Washing machine on steroids just about describes it.

Wow, thanks for sharing those experiences. I can only imagine what it felt like to experience a typhoon or hurricane while aboard a vessel.

Ahhhhhhh the infamous dust storm. Leave the shower clean and have this roll thru just as I start the walk to my chu.

Ah man, that's the worst. Nothing like stepping out of the shower and being covered with sweat and sand. Good times!

SGT David T. - I can agree with you in that unless if it's at a beach and I'm relaxing drinking an ice cold beer.

Yep, not something I care to experience again in the very near future, although where I am from in West Texas we experience sand storms too, but on a lesser scale.
