If our top leaders were selected by a Vote from the men and women on service, will we be worrying about tattoos and side burns? Or we will be cleaning house from the top?

No...military command/leadership is NOT a popularity contest.

If you had a broader strategic thought (please find a good mentor) you may understand why these decisions are being made.  These decisions are not being made by one or two people, but by a Board of Directors and then they branch out.

1SG Levi Zahn. Thanks for your comment and for your thumbs down I will ensure to give you a thumbs up. (Two wrongs don't make a right) But I have to say I am not forced to stay in the Armed Forces I volunteer to serve. At no point I have expressed my feelings in this topic. I am sure one or more of my soldiers will at some point leave or I will leave them and they will need mentorship. I just ask for all of this forum members to take care of them as equal or better than I have. thanks 1SG for taking your time and commenting on my column. For everyone else looking at this post please never tell an American to Stop Serving his or her country. May God bless all of you.

While I do believe in the system, it is ok to disagree with decision, however you must follow those decisions.  Just as if we may not like a particular political party, the COC is still the COC no matter what, we will follow his orders.  These are regulations that we must enforce.  I do not agree with some regulations, however my duty is to enforce them and I will enforce them.  If this is an open discussion ladies and gentlemen, lets keep it an open discussion, and lets keep our comments civil.  SSG Ruizcarrasquillo, I agree with your comment about not asking people to stop serving thier counrtry, however I may advise someone who is not conforming to Military Standards that they may want to find another way of serving thier country as this may not be the correct way for them due to the fact they are not conforming.  IT would be a simple straighten up spech basically.

CSM MICHAEL POLL. I don't get the chance to address a CSM very often but I like to say Thank You for taking your time to read the post and reply. Many of the comments I got back from service members show how many feel about the idea but more it represent every individual as a leader. Many of them like yourself are Great Leaders but some have lost touch with their roots and worst they have forgotten what we must do as leaders Train Teach and Mentor. CSM you gave me your honest opinion and I appreciated when a Leader talk to a subordinate the way you did to myself. I will be honored to fall in, in your ranks at any given point.

Given that anything above O3 or E6 is voted on by Congress, at a certain point this is an incorrect statement.

I see my fellow soldiers and many of them in the ranks privates to generals as US citizens, volunteer to serve our country and great individuals. Every soldier has a voice and it must be heard. In other topic SIR I don't like the way you put the bunch of privates but I respect your opinion.

That's fair.. My comments on just Privates was playing towards my own opinion, and trying to put your opinion at a disadvantage. I could have put it better as just saying while democracy in some situations in the military might work,  it cannot work in every situation. By the by, you don't have to capitalize SIR.

I think we would be cleaning house from the top.  Unfortunately it will never happen.  In the corporate world, it happens often that senior management is let go in order to achieve a cost savings.  They eliminate the higher salary individual and distribute what they were doing down to their subordinates (who was probably doing most of the work anyway).  In the government and military however, we do the opposite.  The higher ups cement their positions by mandating cuts to the lower ranks.  Will it ever change? Doubtful.

Your vote is your voice. When we vote, we are actually telling elected officials and lawmakers on this case generals and SMA how we feel about education, safety, social security, health care, and other important issues. WE NEED OUR LEADER TO WORK FOR THE GUYS ON THE TRENCHES AND NOT FOR CONTRACTS AFTER RETIREMENT. hope not to offend anyone.
