Soldiers from my unit and I want to participate in the Army Ten Miler. It is about a 22 hour drive. This is not the first time that Soldiers go and represent the unit. The method of transportation is a TMP. Is this legal? (using the TMP) or how can we make it legal?

We used a TMP to do the Bataan Death Match in the early 90s. We went as a representative of our unit and they authorized it

The CO authorized the use of the vehicles to escort our 5 person team. The March was a blast of 26.5 miles through White Sands NM. If you have never experienced it I would recommend doing it.

Why is the method of transportation TMP?

Because that is how the units sponsors the team. Same as in other instances where sport teams are sponsor by the unit.

So you need to go to a certain location to compete or participate in the march?

This is closer to AUSA than an intra mural sporting event. It is a private event where there is some official interaction which is why I think your unit needs to check with JAG because like AUSA there are some instances where expending Government funds is appropriate and other times where it is not.

This is a question your Chain of Command should ask the ethics officer at the JAG. Here at Ft Leavenworth it is the Chief of Civil Law.
