Is a spouse eligible for any benefits for a disabled vet after he dies? Is there a minimum disability % necessary for the spouse to get benefits? Does the death have to be related to the disability?

PVT Gerd Gode -
You may request a copy of the veteran's DD Form 214, Report of Separation (or equivalent) for all periods of military service through the National Archives' National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) using SF 180
(09/2021 version), Request Pertaining to Military Records, (available at https://www.archives.gov/) or through your local public custodian of records.

Do caregivers for vet get any sort of pay. Does VA help to pay toward nursing home cost for a vet and or their spouse?

you only get support if your veteran is post 9/11 the rest of us caregivers get nothing. Myself and a social worker at the v.a. hosp tried to get my vet put in a nursing home we appealed their four times their final answer was they would take him if I paid them four thousand dollars a month for his care and he was considered dangerous

Thank you for your service and your question. The VA Caregiver Support Program (CSP) offers two programs to support caregivers of Veterans enrolled in VA healthcare that meet eligibility criteria. The Program of General Caregiver Support Services (PGCSS) provides peer support mentoring, skills training, coaching, telephone support, online programs and referrals to available resources of caregivers of Veterans. The Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers (PCAFC) offers enhanced clinical support and services for caregivers of eligible Veterans who have a serious injury or illness and requires in-person, personal care services.

Please contact your local VA Caregiver Support Program or the Caregiver Support Line at [login to see] to learn more about CSP supports and services offered to caregivers of eligible Veterans. Also, please check out the CSP website and CSP fact sheets for additional information.

The VA offers several burial and memorial benefits for Veterans and their survivors. The best place to start to learn more about these benefits is at https://www.va.gov/burials-memorials/ Veterans, their spouses, minor children, and unmarried adult dependent children can be interred in a VA national cemetery, even if they pre-decease the Veteran. Everything provided within the national cemetery is at no cost to the family. These burial benefits are very similar at VA-funded state Veterans cemeteries. Funeral expenses for the Veteran can also be offset by applying for a Veteran's burial allowance here: https://www.va.gov/burials-memorials/veterans-burial-allowance/ For Veterans buried in a private cemetery, families can receive a government headstone, grave marker or medallion, a burial flag, and one or more Presidential Memorial Certificates at no cost.

My husband was over 50% disabled. He died in 2013 and I was told I couldn't get any of his disability. Why.?? I took care of him till his death. I find this unfair.
