I vaguely remember something about RUC numbers for veterans. Kind of like a novelty thing. Does anyone know if they actually exist? Is there a link/article providing information on them?

Reporting Unit Code (RUC). it was a 5 digit number that identified a specific unit within a Monitored Command Command (MCC). You might get orders to 2d Mar Div and the 3 digit MCC would be spelled out in your orders. I don't remember many but they should be on the net. The 5 digit RUC breaks it down to say 2d Tank Bn. That RUC is linked to all sorts of things, including embark boxes, vehicles etc. This should get you in the right grid square. http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview/id/757774.html

Usually painted on a vehicle for identification of the unit it belongs to. That is my best example of a RUC number.
