On this day in 2012, President Obama signed the presidential proclamation making the 29th of March, Vietnam Veteran's Day.  Although I am not old enough to remember the Vietnam War, I want to take this opportunity to say thank you to the men and women who didn't burn their draft card or run to Canada.  Your fight didn't end with a parade when you came home, and due to that, our current Soldiers are at least welcomed home and not spit on. Some of your brothers are not home yet and will never be forgotten.  Thank you for all that you have done for this Great Nation.

Agreed, Jason!  Thanks for anyone who serves, whether 2 years or 20 years, during Vietnam or peacetime.

Ladies and Gentlemen,  It was pointed out to me that I ommitted the folks that were left behind on the homefront.  This was an oversight on my part, not for any other reason than I was thinking of the vets only.  As a married veteran whose wife and children sacrificed while I served, it was a callous ommission to not thank those people, Moms, Dads, Sisters, Brothers, Wives, Husbands and especially the children who didn't get a day off while their service member was in harm's way.  WE COULDN'T DO WHAT WE DO WITHOUT THEIR SUPPORT AS WELL!  MEA CULPA!

Thanks 1SG Fitzpatrick.   All you say is truly correct.     The sacrifices also extend to the families and the wives who stayed at home to raise their kids right.

Absolutely!  thank you for pointing out my ommission.  Service members, past and present, are supported by the ones that we serve with on the battle field and the ones that are left on the home front quietly waiting for their return.
