CISO can rake in an easy $180K or more if working for a large enough company. It takes years of hard work, dedication, political aligning, and education to get there. If you were to put this into a military perspective it would be at the LTC or full bird level or higher. That is not where you are going to start out. If you want to get into IT, you are going to have to pay your dues and usually that is at the support desk level and believe me.. that is a job filled with stupid users and facepalm worthy moments to drive your stress levels through the roof. Then you will work up to a senior help desk personnel, then SysAdmin, NetAdmin, InfoSec Analyst, then Management, Already you are about 12 to 15 years invested in our career.. then director, then Chief Information Officer.. you may be 20 to 30 years in at this point.. get it.. Nobody is starting out at the top.

I have been retired for 10 years now. My house is paid off on 80 acres. And I have started finding gold on my own time. I don't need no stinkin job, especially working for someone else. If I need money, I go dig it up.

You do realize that no one in the military is qualified for any of these positions upon leaving....right? Articles like these give a false hope for transitioning service members, whereas, they get these grand ideas that they are somehow qualified for these lucrative positions, only for them to find that they do not have the correct background, the right connections, or the required education. The best bet for a transitioning Vet is to enter at whatever level they can, and then give time and effort to climb that ladder once again... Civilians cannot match our speed and efficiency... We close the gap quickly.

MSgt Keith Hebert, that is great to know about other good jobs that are strong fits for vets and that pay well. Are you satisfied in your role, would you recommend it for others?

Yes I like the job and it pays well in this area.
I would recommend this job as long as you can work rotating 12 hour shifts (I work for Citgo ) and all it requires is a AAS in process technology from our local community college(pretty sure this degree is available in other areas)

The biggest questions I have is where are these jobs located and what are the qualifications?

SN Bill Turner, these are roles that exist in large companies that could be good positions for you to look for when applying or for you to aspire to by starting to get the certifications, etc. that are required for them now. RallyPoint does have a very active career corner on the desktop site with over 15,000 jobs that you can check out as well. The link to it is here: https://www.rallypoint.com/careers/civilian
