Was our decades long policy towards Cuba effective? What did it achieve?

I believe it was counter-productive to our interests. It left Cuba with no choice but to embrace the old Soviet Bloc and communism. Much as we did with the U.S.S.R. and as we continue to do with China, we promote capitalism. Socialism/communism is a utopian idea that doesn't stand up to real-world-reality. I believe that normalizing relations with Cuba will not only strengthen democratic organizations within Cuba, but lead to greater and greater freedoms. We must lead the world, not bully.

But we did a unilateral President Obama thing and we rewared bad behavior. I did get a laugh with seeing Ozzy and son in Havana on tv recently.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTEaVOmp0BU

Thanks to Canada and Mexico not breaking relations not very much. Because we didn't take him out he was able to meddle in Mozambique and Angola, his spies were able to torture our prisoners of War at the Hanoi Hilton during the Vietnam war. He was able to infiltrate and support many revolutionary movements in Central and South America. He was thorn in our side. the only good thing now is maybe we can buy 1930 to 1959 cars someday and we can use those vehicles for Hollywood props

Besides infiltrating all communist movements, he trained them and created them.
