Brand new drill here and made the rookie mistake of not poly my hat. I received 2 and one got warped due to being under clothes and the other is bowing due to the rain. Any tips and tricks to reforming, I put it in a press and no dice so that's a waste of 50 bucks any information will help thanks.

I always used a press and non scented hair spray. Would spray the top and underside of the brim and placed it in the press overnight. Came out stiff and held pretty well. Non-scented hair spray because the scented type drew bees. You would walk around looking like a bee-hive.

1SG Frank Boynton I would spray with 90% iso-alcohol to loosen the fibers first. Then hairspray and press.

Lol, sorry 1st Sgt, I’m laughing imagining you barking at boots while getting attacked by bees because your hats not right. You would think that keeping your hat righteous is part of your training, your campaign hat is a hard won badge you can see 100 yards away.

Sgt Dale Briggs actually I sweat pretty bad and Ft Dix does get hot in the summer. I ended up purchasing a Stetson Campaign hat to wear only with class A’s. I had 4 other issued hats that I rotated through. I did make a mistake when I first used hair spray. Told my wife to pick me some up. I didn’t know the difference between hair spray. So I’m on the rifle range looking all soitshined with my freshly pressed hat and the bees were swarming all over me. All the other older drills were laughing at me, getting a big kick out of the newbe. Finally they told me what I did wrong and sure enough when I got home that night my wife had bought scented hairspray.

Check out drillsergeant_fly fish on TikTok. He has a great video on how to poly your hat properly. It might help take that bow out or it might not. Either way great to know for a future hat.
