Eyes and ears open mouth shut- do not be an ugly American and start an international incident that will get you the long course at Ft Leavenworth. Study up on the country and it's customs- remember you are their guest.

The above advuce not withstanding...

First AIP now; it’ll put $7200 in your pocket over the two years. Work hard, be professional! There is lots to do that does not have to involve any of the areas that get our Soldiers in trouble. Be a leader morally, ethically, personally.

SGT James Murphy - It don't matter to me, the fresher is best, here everyday you can buy kimchi in most small stores.
I do remember in Korea during winter the kimchi being buried in big clay pots.

SGT James Murphy - 12 years is a whole lot of eating Kimchi. Lol
How did you ever get to stay for 12 years? I tried to extend for 1 more year, but the 1st Sargent wouldn't let me, I think it was because I was being sent back to the 82nd ABN at Bragg.

SGT James Murphy - If you were then sent to the Nam, you'll be eating Fish Sauce, instead of Kimchi, as to North Carolina, we had alot of Grits. Lol

SGT James Murphy - On the DMZ Korea, there was one guy that was stoned, and we were on ambush in the wire. A jack rabbit ran across his body as he laid there, and he started shooting, and that lead to everybody shooting. No one knew what they were shooting at, just in the direction. Flares were called in from the 105's, and we lit up that area.
Later back at camp, we all sat around and founded out about the rabbit, everyone was laughing about the incident, and we wondered if the North Koreans must have been saying, "Crazy GI's". Lol
"That was one good GI party in the field". Lol

Don't be the "Ugly American." Remember you are in their country, not the US. While most now days probably speak English, many wont just to make a point. Show respect to all, especially the elderly.

good advice MSG Hutchinson. When I was in Tech school, we had 2 Thai sgts with us and were briefed on how to treat them. Never forgot that
