What AFI covers safety, as far as living standards?

My first troop is coming in at the end of this month. I have recently found out that the dorm she is going to be in doesn't have toilets that flush. Supposedly, according to the other airmen that have lived in them longer, this has already been brought up and it hasn't been fixed or able to be fixed because it is the entire dorm building with exception to a few toilets in the halls. Somehow this doesn't seem legit to me. How can you house approximately 96 airmen in a dorm building with only three properly working community toilets? Is there an AFI or some sort of regulation published that discusses what is or isn't required for standards of living in military housing?

I cant answer specific to AF regulations and procedures as they will differ than what I know in the Army.
BUT I will say there is a path to follow no doubt.
Who manages the dorm, Military? Civilian contractor? Mix?
Id say do the leg work......how many rooms, how many have working/ non working toilets.
Have there been traceable work orders summited?. or just complaints? If paper or digital work orders have been submitted, by who, to who and when?
Taking all that to leadership is a great start..making it "easy" for them to action.. The easer you make it, the more likely they are to forward and do so.

Thank you for the help. It is military and I know there are NCOs in charge of Dorm Management our Major only just heard about this issue yesterday, which is when I heard about it too. I cannot help but wonder why none of the Airmen have said anything until now but I suppose that is another rabbit trail for later. Unfortunately we only have about five people in this entire building but I can have the four that actually live there ask around to the other Airmen and go from there.

Why did it take it so long to be reported. And the Major finding about it first. And what happened to the 1st SGTs. But with a little checking and a lot of work I am sure you will be ready. Hang in there.

Never and I mean Never go by hearsay..........a good supervisor will go and check it out. If this is true go to your first sergeant. He/She is the rep for the dorm residents to the commander on these issues. Normally a situation like this would be involving a Command Chiefs attention. I may have been retired for 10 years now but the saying "take care of the people and the people will take care of the mission" should be still around I would think?

I agree. That is why I am trying to do my research a bit before she gets here. I know I can't and shouldn't solve all her problems but I want to make sure when presented with them I have a good foundation of where to go. Especially if I am being given a headstart on a potential problem. If it is true that there are more than the ones just recently brought to light, I believe I will sit down and chat with our shirt. Thank you for that insight!

May not be the most up to date, so look for something newer, but it answers your question.

As was mentioned AFI 32-6005 is the appropriate AFI. As a former BCE, my first question is have the residents let the ADL or UH Superintendent been informed of the issue? Per the AFI, it is there responsibility to inform CE Ops of the issue needing repair per AFI 32-1001. If the problems have not been resolved, it would be appropriate to ask the CE Ops desk what is the plan to get them repaired. I don't know of a CE Ops Flight that would want this problem to exist if they knew about it. Sounds like a gap in communication somewhere along the way.

Thank you for that lead as well. I fully intend on tracking this down if it truly is an issue that the entire dorm is going through.

Afi32-6005 does address the management of the dorms. It sounds like there have been complaints. Safety and bio would be good departments to bring into this fight. They can assign a rac to it and getnit addresses if no one is paying attention. Like Lt Col works mentioned. You need to make sure this has reached ce and they are working the issue. These forms may be slated for demo tied into another milcon project and there are restrictions on construction on that facility. If ce is aware and not acting safety and bio and then the ig if is still not addressed

they need to put in a work order with DPW. or make a stop at the local IG. If they are still living in squalor after that a quick cell phone video of the living conditions sent to the local news channel will get the problem solved pretty quick.

I think there are other routes to take before heading to IG or the local news station. Granted if it got to the point of no one solving something this huge, yeah that is what IG is for and by all means utilize that resource. But it would not be my first stop.
