At Fort Wainwright Ak, Oct. 28. 1982 our platoon was visited by Command Sergeant Major Billy Cobb of the 172d Infantry Brigade. This was an unexpected visit to each soldier walking from room to room. He came upon me, I was a Corporal. He asked me many questions. A time later I received a Letter of Appreciation from CSM Cobb. His words were he stated was professional, initiative ,determination, can do attitude,
attention to detail, quality of detail exemplified by the quality of teamwork exhibited by my squad members. He also stated you are a soldier of high moral convictions who sets high standards for himself, than lives by those standards and demands these same of his men. CSM Cobb said this is the basis of sound leadership and do it well. He lastly said your outstanding performance of duty is in keeping with the finest traditions of military service and reflect distinct credit upon yourself, E Troop, and the United States Army.

If you can't listen then you don't belong in a leadership position.
