If you like Science Fiction then the Honor Harrington series by David Weber is full of leadership examples. Good leadership vs bad leadership is a major recurring theme in the series.

A good book on the first Gulf War is The General's War by Michael Gordon and General Bernard Trainor.
An interesting book on Afghanistan from a different perspective is The Hidden War by Artyom Borovik. It is a Russian journalist's account of the Soviet war in Afghanistan.

A little more USAF related, but No Room For Error by John T. Carney is a great book about USAF Special Ops. John T. Carney Jr was passed over for Major and then made O-6 several years below the zone so he had a very interesting career.

I like the classics such as "We were soldiers" and the "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" by Stephen R Covey.
Covey is a well known author in leadership books in the business world.

"Life In Mr. Lincoln's Navy" is a favorite of mine. It talks about the switch from sailing ships to coal-fired engines, among other things.

Great read on leadership by a man who turned the worst rated sub in the navy into the best rated sub in the navy by empowering his people to do their jobs, and encouraging a "buy-in " to innovation and excellence through collaboration at every level. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AFPVP0Y/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?ie=UTF8&btkr=1

CPT (Join to see) Give this series a whirl: The books were initially a compilation of sea-stories traded by Maj Gene Duncan and his shipmate Capt Moore. By today's standards, they're not terribly PC. But, the series is a profound reflection on leadership challenges. There all short reads and heavily steeped with humor. You'll find yourself somewhere in the pages. Green Side Out, Brown Side Out, Run In Circles, Scream and Shout... All preempted by "Dunk's Almanac.

CPT (Join to see), The Punic Wars by Adrian Goldsworthy. I have read this twice. The second time I read it I was deployed to Iraq. Actually, I have read dozens of Roman military type books through out the years.
