I was looking into the WOFT program and I am determined to get selected even if it takes me a while. My question is what are my chances of getting selected right now as a E-2, what will I have to do to make myself more appealing. Right now I am studying for the Sift test so I can score high on that, but is there anything else I can do to get selected. I heard the army is in need for pilots and my dream is to be a pilot and serve my 20 years and possibly serve for as long as I can.

Learn basic information about Army Aviation. For example, know at least the types of aircraft the Army operates and what their mission is. Your understanding of the mission types doesn't have to be in-depth but know the difference between attack, assault and other mission sets.

I've interviewed several candidates who claim Army Aviation as a "life long dream" but have no idea about different aircraft and the mission of Army Aviation.

Get a flight physical ASAP and if there's any problems that can be addressed, address them before you are assessed.

Good luck.

Good chance. The army is 750 pilots short.

I'll be honest and say you're better off waiting until you get promoted to at least a PFC. I don't know when you are up for promotion, but chances are it'll come before you are ready to drop your packet. I'm telling you this because out of all the 153A selectees from this year's boards there have been no PV2's and only one PFC to get selected. Is that to say that you have no chance of getting selected? Absolutely not, but rank does play a role for how appealing you are. Rank comes with time and time equals more experience, etc... (a very basic way of looking at it).

CW4 Urban is correct when he says the Army is desperately short on pilots so do not let your rank stop you from submitting your packet. However, you did say you were determined to get selected even if it takes you a while. I would personally wait until you are promoted to SPC if you want the best chance for a first time go.
