The special teams usually resulted in some good quantifiable bullets. Things like the -NBC reconnaissance, decon and marking teams, -Field Hygiene and sanitation, -Advanced and quartering party, -Rail load master, - Master Driver.
All those provided for an NCO to excel and be recognized for their contribution during deployments, FTXs and other events that were observed by outside agencies or Senior leaders. Conversely if the NCO was chewed up they could generate some pretty nasty feed back for bad bullets.
