When I was a young Marine NCO with the serving on a Marine Expeditionary Unit, we had a S-3 Officer with the Battalion Landing Team named Major Dick. As with most Operations Officer his attitude (and name) fit the billet.

GySgt (Join to see) We had a Sgt Major. Phone calls were like a Abbott and Costello skit. "Sergeant Major can I help you.......Oh no sir, you want THE SMG. I am just a SGT....I know I said Sergeant Major....I am Sgt Major, but I am not a Sergeant Major. No my last name is Major and I am a SGT.....Yes Sir, that is pretty fucked up!" That shit was funny the first 100 times, then after that I just wanted to shoot somebody in the face.
