What are some of the best duty stations in the Army for 11B?

I'm currently at my first duty station and looking for my next one. The most important deciding factor is that I'm trying to deploy, but of course I don't want to end up in a shitty unit with poor leadership. I'm leaning toward Campbell or Bragg, but I've heard mixed reviews of both. What are your thoughts?

The single best 1st Duty station for a new 11B or any 11 series MOS is where you are assigned.
Sure Alaska, Hawaii, Forts Bragg and Campbell would make great 1st duty stations. But what makes your first duty station a great place is you.

I'm actually shopping around for my second duty station. I'm mostly looking for a unit that is still deploying regularly and currently has a decent command climate.

CPL (Join to see) same with follow on assignments.
I was commissioned 7 Dec 1979. When got to IOBC the Chief of Staff spoke to us green ass 2LTs on Career enhancing Assignments.
He told us that all assignments were career enhancing. One Smart Ass stood and said that " Marrying your daughter would be Career Enhancing!" The Chief of Staff with out batting an eye, "You Loose; she's already Married!"

Hello, SPC Chinquee. I will do my best to help you. I am not infantry, but I have work with them. If you want your best chances to deploy you need to go to Germany, Fort Bragg, NC , Fort Drum, NY, Fort Campbell, KY, Fort Hood , TX and Schofield Barracks, HI. You are infantry so you will be stationed at the Infrantry Division. Now, as for the leadership you can't judge unit bases on their location. The reason is that leadership come in go at duty station. The person that said that place had toxic leadership there while there was there , then that leadership is more than likely wont be there anymore. You should keep in mind that people PCS all the time on the military no matter what rank you are. So, when you go to one of these places you may have great leadership while there. I hope this help and best of luck to you in your career.

Thanks for the input. I'm actually at Schofield Barracks right now, and the last time an infantry brigade has deployed from here was in 2012. And I understand that leadership changes, I guess I'm mostly looking for someone who is currently stationed at one of those units that still deploys frequently who can comment on the current command climate.

I came from Hood. The only unit that legitimately deploys there is 2CR. I got lucky when I was there and got a “combat deployment”. Do not go to Germany. 10th MTN, 82nd or 101 would probably be your best bet if you’re chasing a deployment. 4th ID as well.

82nd Airborne and 101st Airborne are your best options. I can't promise that they will deploy or that brigade. My advice is talk to your branch manager or someone from that unit. I don't know if you want to go this route ,but you can reenlist for the National Guard because they have a website called Tour of Duty that let you look at assignments and sometimes they have deployments on there. You wont deployed to your unit that are assigned to ,but if you want to deployed individual to a different unit that is there you can tried that. I hope this help.

This really can't be answered. What I consider the BESTEST OF THE BEST, you may die of boredom or worse. What I think is the biggest shit-hole in the world may be where you fall in love with the Army and want to retire some day.
My biggest piece of advice is to get as far away from your hometown as possible. If you are from Down South (i.e. South of I-10), choose Alaska or Korea or anywhere in Europe. If you are from the Land of Ice and Snow (i.e. North of I-80), choose something like Hood or anywhere down South. Get the hell overseas and see the world!
You are young - see the world before you feel it's necessary to settle down!

Agree about seeing the world...after my enlisted/NCO service I worked construction in Asia and Africa before I went back to school to get my commission. Seeing the rest of the world is a very good thing. Made me appreciate America, for sure.

Don't chase a deployment, just choose somewhere away from "home" and experience as much as you can. Travel and make friends as much as possible. Everyone I meet has different opinions on all of the posts. I for one love Campbell because of what I am able to do off post and have just been lucky to have an outstanding chain of command and great guys in my platoon. However, if you want a great all around post to be stationed, a high chance of deployment, and don't mind the snow, go to Carson. I have yet to hear any ill will towards the post and having "lived" in Denver/Co Springs it's beautiful and will never leave you bored.

I was very seriously considering Carson, but I ended up going with Campbell simply because it seems more likely that I'll get deployed. I'll be in my re-enlistment window again shortly after getting to Campbell, so maybe Carson will be next.

I forgot to add that I grew up with military parents living all over the world, and I've spent the last two years in Hawaii, so I really wanted a CONUS station next.

Deployments are slowing down everywhere. I've been here over 2 years and have yet to deploy. However I have gotten to go to Wisconsin to train the NG and up to West Point to train cadets for a summer.

25th Infantry Division (Light), Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, is a wonderful location, although living expenses are high. Fort Lewis WA and anywhere in Alaska are great if you like the outdoors and hunting or fishing. You want to deploy? Go to Fort Bragg, NC, "Home of the Airborne and Special Operations". That will require a stop at Fort Benning to get Airborne qualified. And finally, Vicenza IT, home of the 173rd Airborne Bde, is a very nice place, and they deploy a good bit. Vicenza is close to some great tourist spots like Venice, Milan, and Pisa. Also, from Milan you can jump on the Trans-European Express and be in Germany in a couple of hours.

LTC Tom Jones You're right about that sir, I guess I'm mostly looking for 11Bs who are currently at a unit that still deploys frequently who can comment on the current command climate at the higher levels.

2LT Brian L. I've actually had a lot of people tell me that. Is there any way to request 3rd Brigade if I re-enlist for Campbell?

As a SPC I doubt it... I was able to when I reenlisted at Fort Carson but that is probably because 3rd BCT was on the chart to deploy I guess. Ask retention and the worst that they can tell you is no. Get crazy and call the 3rd BCT CSM and tell him that's all you've ever wanted to do is serve in 3rd BCT and maybe hell pull strings lol.

Bragg you will more than likely get deployed an if you want to go airborne it's easy to get when your there I loved Bragg when I was in and I got out and stayed here but it's all up to you tho as far as leadership goes you're going to have crappy people everywhere you go and you're going to have some of the best everywhere you go but all in all it depends on how of a person you are and how you get treated but my advice travel get as far away from home is possible and see the world and just have fun and meet awesome group of men and women that you can call on for anyting at any time
