What are some of the best morals the military has taught you?

Hello everyone,

I'd like to open up a discussion and talk about what are some positive things or morals the military has taught you. Look back on your year(s) and come up with the most positive thought or lesson that has impacted you the most from military training.

The word, "moral," I personally believe ties close to positive, happiness or sometimes funny stories. So I ask of you all to keep it positive and share your best life lesson that you gained while you were in or what you have learned so far (for those who currently serving).

I'd like to share mine. I think the two biggest morals I've learned so far is how to work as a team and how I've learned to not take life for granted so much anymore after only two short years so far of my six year contract.

I've learned you cannot get most things done within the military without a team. I was taught this lesson after the first couple of weeks of stepping onto the grounds of Fort Gordon. Not only was I training to be a soldier but I was taught what a good leader looks like and how teamwork gets the job done.

Of course, not taking things for granted in life is the other big lesson I learned on my own. To some of us its kind of a shock to enter the military and be separated from home and sometimes its the first time being away from family for an extended period of time. Before I left I don't believe I appreciated everything I had and when I came back from basic the first summer and AIT the following summer, I seemed to have grown up a little. I started appreciating the little things and taking pride within myself for who I was.

Another thought that just sparked in my mind:

Today I had just finished taking my SATs, which wasn't too bad. The only thing that made everyone sigh except for me was the long hours we had to test and the 5 minute breaks we had in between sections. I think another lesson I learned from my short time in so far is, things aren't as bad as they seem. A lot of the other people in the classroom were kind of like "what? only 5 minute break?" -- The younger me would have said that too but ever since I joined the military, I'm thankful for even a two minute break for whatever job or task it is.
