Just finished a tour at Fort Leonard Wood as a BN XO for a training unit. Mostly medical (bodies were not prepared for the increased physical fitness training), some drug issues (tested positive and the results finally came back), and mostly mental issues. Mental issues included undisclosed mental problems and suicide ideations.

It is really different between men and women. When I was a Drill at Ft. Dix, I trained more female cycles than I did male cycles. The main reason men were usually discharged was their inability to adapt to the military life, (like Cpt. Bob already pointed out) and then some sort of injury. Minor injuries the trainee was recycled, but major injuries, they were TDP'd. The main reason women were discharged is failure to qualify in BRM or PT. There was some exceptions. In the winter time, we saw a lot older group of women join than in the summer. My average female cycle in the summer was 19 1/2 years old, during the winter it was 25. The older a person is, the less likely they are to be able to adapt to the military life style. But that's a discussion for another time.

CPT Bob Coleman -Always sorry to hear of the death of a fellow trooper. I also saw some weird stuff while I was in service. I was in the Infantry before joining the Air Force.
