Do you miss PX, hospital, commissary, or recreation facilities.

I definitely miss the PX and clothing and sales but the commissary gets spanked down here by HEB

I personally still live near a military installation. I enjoy being around Marines. I don't think I can handle being around civilians.

I have never lived around a military base after retirement, but miss it a lot as I get older.

What are some things you miss about not living around a military installation?

I live 30 minutes from Ft Gordon and I'm ok with avoiding the BX, commissary and hospital! Kroger, 10% military discount at Lowes or Home Depot, and stay away from docs, they are bad for your health!

I live near NAS Pensacola. We live near Lowes, Winn Dixie, Walmart and have a real family doctor and specialists to use. The savings isn't worth the hassle. Happy off base!

I was in the Army for 2 years, at Fort polk LA , Vietnam, and Ft hood TX but I live a few miles from Offut AFB. I always got along with the GI's and didn't have a problem living near Offut. My dad worked civil service there for his career. The life for an Airman aint exactly the same for an Army infantryman. Living near Offut is fine with me, I still live here

Oddly.....and strangely....I miss the sounds of early morning cadence calls. And I also miss the smells of diesel fumes in the air.......I blame FT Irwin for this one.

Nothing. I live close to Redstone Arsenal and can go there anytime I want. There isn't much point since I can't use most facilities there.

To be quite honest, the camaraderie of just being there, I do very greatly miss it.
