What are the best excuses you have heard for people not joining the military?

I joined for the college benefit. During Nam they gave us $45K for college & that would buy you a bachelors degree at any college except Ivy League. I was disappointed to learn Congress cut this benefit. In my mind Congress should increase this benefit.

My Daughter’s ex-boyfriend (thank god). He told me on the day we met in order to impress me “yeah, I thought about joining the military”. So I asked “why not, you’re only 18”? He responded with “You know, I just have too much going on with my life right now”.

Oh yea, I don't think I can have people yelling at me or telling me what to do. That's ridiculous, lol

Afraid of going to war!

My oldest daughter dummy boyfriend...I have flat feet. Dude, my feet are almost flat! Get the hell out of here with that nonsense. Lol

Guy said to me once, "Theres a difference between love of country and love of government. Military works for the government and as long as the government is treating its people like crap, I will never work for them." He still thanked me for my service and dealing with, and I quote, "All the bullshit they put you through."

When I was a recruiter, I had a young man, who scored above a 70 on the ASVAB, that he only wanted to work with his mama at the local chicken processing factory

The only one to ever say anything about it to me was my younger brother. He was griping about having to work a nowhere job even with his masters degree. I suggested the Air Force to him and he told me he'd never join because he didnt want to lose his freedom and his rights. He spent years looking down on me for being a "lifer".

Funny thing, though: He's not shy about enjoying the benefits of belonging to the Sons of the American Legion. It kinda chaps my ass a bit.

I shot myself laughing when its readily apparent when you talk to someone who joined but either didnt make it through basic, or did nothing while they were in because all of their stories are about some point during basic.

The 2nd Amendment IS our national defense. The standing army is a corporate boondoggle of epic proportions destroying the lives of true americans by stealing their wealth and causing the brutal deaths of millions around the world in stealing foreign natural resources.
