I will never forget returning back from the Middle East to the waiting arms of my loving family, from my 9-month deployment from Desert Shield (1990) - Desert Storm (1991).

I took this one one night years ago at the WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C.

Went to DC with the Honor Flight this month with veterans from WWII, Korea, Vietnam and Desert Storm. Whirlwind one-day trip but saw the war memorials, Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Lincoln Memorial, and driving tour of DC. Spending time with the soldiers who carried the torch before me was a wonderful experience. They paved the way. Our WWII vets are dying at a high rate now, which is why the program has expanded to include more conflicts. I went with Queen City Honor Flight out of Charlotte. Check your local state chapters, go if you can.

The Tomb of The Unknown Soldier(s)

There is a special relationship between Hospital Corpsmen and Marines. The Hospital Corps supplies medical support to Marine infantry units. Prior to serving with the Marine Corps, Corpsmen attend Field Medical Service School, an intensive program of combat infantry training similar to boot-camp. They are then deployed for service with Marine Corps units of the FMF (Fleet Marine Force).
