I haven't gotten out yet to view all those official Military Monuments out there, but being a nurse, this one I loved!

Wanda Afualo-Carey, on this discussion thread, I've tagged you as to the origin of the sculpture. It comes from a WWII photograph!

This 1984 photo of the Gettysburg National Cemetery was taken from the tower that no longer exists. Our national cemeteries are lasting monuments to the fallen.

Thank you Mikel, Bill, Robert & Miles. I hope you enjoyed the photo as much as I enjoyed the view from that tower which no longer exists. I guess drones will do the job now.

I was at Gettysburg to chaperoning my daughter's 5th grade class. What an impressive place. It really puts the struggle of the civil war battles in perspective.

There are numerous great images of the Korean War Veterans Memorial on this site. Sometimes overlooked are the haunting images etched in the granite wall which provides an appropriate backdrop to the sculptures. The reflections of the stainless steel sculptures on this wall creates an amazing image by pulling the free standing sculptures and the granite wall together for a lasting silent tribute to those who served in the Korean War.

COL (Join to see) - Great photos of the Korean Wall. Had the privilege to take my father (who passed away on 7 October 2016) to the Korean War Memorial on an Honor Flight in June 2016. He was Korean War veteran and Purple Heart Recipient.

Sir,
For me....this monument, dedicated to our fallen brothers of 3BCT, 10th MTN DIV(LI), (Spartans) hits home the most.

I'm rather bias but I truly love the 1st Cavalry Division's OIF/OEF memorial at Fort Hood, Texas. "FIRST TEAM!"

I have many but if I ever manage to get to Europe and visit Normandy I'd love to see the US Navy memorial there dedicated to the beachmasters and the destroyer's who laid down covering fire just off the beach for the troops.

I recommend two Monuments: Monument to the Battle of San Jacinto, 18 minutes that profoundly changed the history of the United States and the world. The tallest masonry monument in the world, completed in the 1930s. Monument to HMS Jervis Bay, Armed Merchant Cruiser, sunk in 1940. Before the war, Jervis Bay was a civilian cargo/passenger steamer. With the addition of WW I surplus she was converted into a warship. In late 1940, she was the sole escort of a convoy headed for England when they were attacked by a modern German pocket-battleship. Captain Ferguson, commander of Jervis Bay and the convoy, gave the order for the ships to scatter, then turned to engage the German. Though there was no doubt how the action would end, Ferguson continued his charge, taking repeated hits while his guns were to far away to reply. The jarvis Bay was sunk, but her amazing attack so occupied the Germans that 36 of the convoy's ships made it to port. Captain Feruson was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross.

Col. Mike. My favorite....ooops that's right , the memorial to my fallen fellow aviators and crew members , 4000 plus ,that were killed in Viet Nam has not been erected because it has been blocked over and over by the Army. Often called the helicopter war credited with over 90,000 rescues , a simple monument proposed and paid for by VHPA cannot be erected. Welcome home again! Right.
