Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) is a free U.S. Department of Education TRIO program designed to help eligible U.S. military veterans enter and succeed in the postsecondary school of their choosing. Currently, there are 51 VUB programs nationwide, including Puerto Rico, ready to assist veterans. The services provided by VUB projects include:
Academic Preparation
Assessment of academic skills
Academic Refresher Courses
- Math
- Laboratory Science
- Composition
- Reading
- Literature
- Foreign Language
- Computer Skills
Other services may include
Assistance completing college admission forms
Personal academic advising and career counseling
Help with GI Bill applications

Eligibility for services
To benefit from the free educational services offered by VUB, veterans must meet a few simple eligibility requirements:
Participants must:
- have at over 180 days of active duty service, or
- if less than 180 days, must be discharged or released because of a service connected disability, or
- be member of a reserve component of the Armed Forces called to active duty for a period of more than 30 days, or
-be a member of a reserve component of the Armed Forces who served on active duty in support of a contingency operation on or after September 11, 2001.
- all discharges qualify except dishonorable.
All participants must be either low-income (based on family income and number of dependents) or potential first generation college students (neither parent earned a 4-year degree).

A provider uses the GAH website to register, indicating what kinds of services s/he provides, and agrees to the terms and conditions. Visit the Provider Registration Page.
A GAH administrator reviews and approves the registration, and the provider is notified via e-mail when his/her online GAH account is activated.
Step 2:
A site visitor (could be a veteran, family member or person affected by a loved-ones service), clicks on "Get Help" to get information on what to expect and how to choose a provider. S/he clicks on "Provider Search" to find someone offering individual counseling services near their home.
That site visitor obtains a provider's contact information from the list of providers and calls them to set up an appointment.
Step 3:
Upon completing his or her counseling, those who receive care return to the GAH website and provide confidential feedback to the GAH administrative team regarding his or her care. Visit the Contact Us Page.
Those who receive care can search for community organizations with projects in her area. S/he contacts them directly to offer their time in a volunteer capacity. Visit the Giving Back Page.
