Without a doubt, there are truly some great resources available to active and Reserve component personnel and veterans. Of course, if folks don't know that they're out there, members and their families couldn't possibly benefit from some of these amazing offers and services. So, the idea here is to share those helpful tidbits of information, tips, links, lessons learned, processes, resources, wisdom and/or POCs to help members find the resources they need for their troops, their families, and to help themselves. Just a couple of quick admin notes, please make sure to share the source if known, and remember to post in accordance with RallyPoint guidelines. Well, I'm certain that will be a great way to get timely information, resources, and assistance to those who need it most, when they need it the most... so, if you have something useful, helpful, or good-to-know, please feel free to share. Alright folks, it's that time, so pull-up a keyboard and let's get this thing started; thank you for all that you do, and... see you all in the discussion threads!

As a technology staffing firm, we can't think of a more fitting mantra. We're extreme believers in technology and the incredible things it can do. But we know that behind every smart piece of software, every powerful processor, and every brilliant line of code is an even more brilliant person.

The intersection of technology and people — it's where we live. Backed by more than 60 years of experience, Robert Half Technology is the staffing expert to call whether you're looking to hire experienced technology talent or find the best technology jobs.

Unlike other staffing firms, we emphasize personal interaction. We individually interview all of the candidates we place and meet with our clients to better understand their needs. Because even with all of today's advances in technology, we know nothing can replace that personal touch.

Veterans Upward Bound

http://www.navub.org

Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) is a free U.S. Department of Education TRIO program designed to help eligible U.S. military veterans enter and succeed in the postsecondary school of their choosing. Currently, there are 51 VUB programs nationwide, including Puerto Rico, ready to assist veterans. The services provided by VUB projects include:

Academic Preparation

Assessment of academic skills
Academic Refresher Courses
- Math
- Laboratory Science
- Composition
- Reading
- Literature
- Foreign Language
- Computer Skills

Other services may include

Assistance completing college admission forms
Personal academic advising and career counseling
Help with GI Bill applications
Assistance completing financial aid applications and finding scholarships
Career guidance and planning
Cultural field trips and campus visits
Tutoring and mentoring
Referrals to other community agencies serving veterans
Eligibility for services

To benefit from the free educational services offered by VUB, veterans must meet a few simple eligibility requirements:

Participants must:
- have at over 180 days of active duty service, or
- if less than 180 days, must be discharged or released because of a service connected disability, or
- be member of a reserve component of the Armed Forces called to active duty for a period of more than 30 days, or
-be a member of a reserve component of the Armed Forces who served on active duty in support of a contingency operation on or after September 11, 2001.
- all discharges qualify except dishonorable.

All participants must be either low-income (based on family income and number of dependents) or potential first generation college students (neither parent earned a 4-year degree).
If you want to go back to school, but it has been a few years since you've been in a classroom setting, or if you could use a free refresher program to help knock the rust off of your skills, contact the veteran-friendly staff at a VUB program near you. To find a program close to you, go to the VUB Program Locator at the top left side of the front page of this web site.

step 1:

A provider uses the GAH website to register, indicating what kinds of services s/he provides, and agrees to the terms and conditions. Visit the Provider Registration Page.

A GAH administrator reviews and approves the registration, and the provider is notified via e-mail when his/her online GAH account is activated.
Step 2:

A site visitor (could be a veteran, family member or person affected by a loved-ones service), clicks on "Get Help" to get information on what to expect and how to choose a provider. S/he clicks on "Provider Search" to find someone offering individual counseling services near their home.

That site visitor obtains a provider's contact information from the list of providers and calls them to set up an appointment.
Step 3:

Upon completing his or her counseling, those who receive care return to the GAH website and provide confidential feedback to the GAH administrative team regarding his or her care. Visit the Contact Us Page.

Those who receive care can search for community organizations with projects in her area. S/he contacts them directly to offer their time in a volunteer capacity. Visit the Giving Back Page.

Military Veterans struggle to quantify their unique experience into a powerful value proposition to civilian employers...we know because we have been there-done that. But, Veterans have a unique skill-set that directly translates to project management, regardless of their particular military occupational specialty or rank. They have been accomplishing critically important missions with limited resources on tight schedules while fending off tremendous risks in austere environments by managing the expectations of a myriad of diverse stakeholders every day of their military lives. The problem is that most Veterans don't realize that this equals project management experience or know how to capitalize on it to build a solid bridge to a lucrative post-service career as a Project Manager.
